Beef cheeks are incredible. You can make a lovely Beef Bourgignon with beef cheeks.

Sampled a new restaurant on the West Pier in Howth tonight. Called the Pier House. It’s where nondescript restaurant Deep used to be. Where Deep was bright and cold the Pier House is dark cosy and warm. The food was savage. Shrimp tempura to start followed by seared turbot which was a thing of beauty. Pricey, but top quality.

Mamo in Howth has reopened after the lockdown. Had the Higgins’s Cote de Boeuf cc @TheUlteriorMotive @Spidey. Savage. The dogs are making their way through the bone here now.

Did you ate all that meat on your own?

I brought home the bone for the dogs

How many ounces was it? Looks a big cut. Fucking love a steak now

O Moma

Is that bearnaise or garlic butter? Some slap of it. You’d want the rikki fairly hot so it melts enough.

Bearnaise

Dear TFK’rs of Fingal.

Due to circumstances beyond my control (i.e. the lads in NPHET etc) and a keenly observed moral compass (particularly from the other half) I have had to cancel today my keenly awaited trip to Mount Juliet this weekend.

We are still hoping to ditch the toddler for two nights (Sat/Sun) and one idea currently under discussion is to stay in a hotel in the Fingal area as some sort of consolation prize.

I come to you therefore for suggestions? Is there any hotels etc worth considering above others and is there restaurants, particularly in Malahide, we should put on the list. Current thoughts are to stay in either the Grand Hotel in Malahide or King Sitric in Howth but we’re fairly flexible

Thanking you in advance.

The King sitric itself does amazing fish but it is very old school. New fangled SoCoDu hipsters like yourself should pick one of the restaurants on the east pier. @Fagan_ODowd is your man there. With regard to malahide, kajjal is one of the best Indian* restaurants in the world. The Siam Thai is a top class Thai**. The Seabank bistro is excellent (fish) and is a stone’s throw from the grand hotel.
Also check the tide times, the grand hotel is about a 20 minute walk from high Rock which is excellent for swimming but watch out for weirdos at night.

I’m presuming it’s just the pair of you? From Howth I’d make sure to do the cliff walk loop of howth. Its superb. Start at Sitric walk uphill and it brings you all the way around the back of howth and up over the top back to the village. It’s beautiful. Takes about 2 hours or a bit more.
If staying in malahide do the malahide to Porto walk, then continue along the velvet strand coming back by the far end into portmarnock village. Then hop on a dart back if you’re lazy or stroll back if you’re hearty.

Top man @Juhniallio - this is exactly the sort of local info I was looking for. Your suggestions on walks are great and would be one of the main reasons to head that direction. The missus is pregnant and the pubs are closed so not much opportunity to sit and skull pints anyway!

How many months pregnant? The Howth cliff walk has a fair few up and downs and a bit of rocky terrain.
If you’re spoiling her there’s a Spa therapy joint about 100m from the door of the grand hotel.
Equally, book yourself into the the Portmarnock hotel and golf links and play a round of golf on a savage course if that’s your bag.

I think there’s a swimming pool in Portmarnock that doubles as a pub if you’re stuc

Best restaurant in Howth now is Mamo. Best restaurant with a view is Aqua. The Pier House is new but very good. King Sitric is very old school but East underneath it is very casual and buzzy and you’d get a nice bit of lobster there. The House is very good especially for a brunch. Howth gets mobbed at the weekend so factor that in.

I assume the rooms in the King Sitric are fine but other than that there isn’t a hotel left in Howth. The Marine in Sutton is the nearest but it’s not great although it has a pool. The Portmarnock Links Hotel or the Grand in Malahide better hotels but neither are wow hotels and they cater mostly for weddings.

about 4/5 months pregnant.

Golf sounds great but I’d be out on my todd I suppose!

In Howth,We took the Irelands eye ferries last weekend and it’s pretty cool. Stunning views. Well worth it

Malahide wise, bon appetite, kajal,Jaipur and seabank are the best for food. The castle is worth a trip
