Official Fingal Dining Out Thread

Good shout farmer. Ate there once. Enjoyed it b

Typical fucking Runt. Limerick scum.

Itā€™s funny the bird last night was saying that she hated Limerick people as well.

Whatā€™s funny about that?

That was a made up story so that I could mention ā€˜the birdā€™ in another post hence poking fun at myself following your orginal post.

We have a different pace of life in Fingal, influenced by our large Italian community who brought with them their fine cuisine but also their relaxed approach to life.

There was an Italian gentleman dining in the Brass Monkey. He, and his female companion who was Irish, spoke at length with the manager/owner of the restaurant (she must have been to get away with chatting the entire time) in a nice and relaxed manner.

Owner of said establishment is a sound gent who owns many thriving eateries in the Peninsula region of Fingal.

  Well done Farmer.
I have eaten in Siam Thai in Malahide twice in recent times, this restaraunt always seems to be busy.

The 1st occasion was for business, it was very busy for 6.45 on a Thursday evening, waitress was very quick to point out that we were too late for the early bird menu, that aside we were ushered to our table in an efficient and welcoming manner.
A live singer accompanied by a piano added to the ambience.
I had chicken satay for starters and a beef dish with oyster sauce for mains finished off with an ice cream dessert all washed down with a few bottles of Thai beer.
A very tasty meal, with good attentive service although quite pricey in the current climate.

2nd occasion was a lunch for a Confirmation, the lunch menu includes bento boxes which is a brilliant idea.
Service, once again was fast and friendly, there were children in our group and staff made sure everyone was looked after, even the finicky eaters.
Childrenā€™s portions were quite expensive on the lunch menu though.
Other than that, all in all a pleasurable dining experience was had and the guests were happy with their meals.

So in summary, itā€™s a thumbs up for Siam Thaiā€¦

I am a big fan of Siam Thai. I haver never been to the one in Malahide, but the one in Dundrum and the one off Dame Street are really nice. The service is always excellent and very fast.

Were you out in Howth for the Bin Laden Memorial service Farmer?

No - I was out there forā€¦ something else.

Was there one in Ballsbridge as well?
Malahide was the 1st one as far as Iā€™m aware, some said the quality of the food deteriorated after it expanded but it seems fine to me.

Maybe - couldnā€™t tell you.

Duck spring rolls for starter.

Thai Green Curry with fillet beef.

I actually experienced Siam Thai myself for the first time over the weekend (Andrew st I think). It was nice, but for the price was nothing spectacularā€¦ Although I will say I didnt go the curry route, and my mates Panang curry did taste pretty good.

What are bento boxes?

Bento is a single-portion takeout or home-packed meal common in Japanese cuisine. A traditional bento consists of rice, fish or meat, and one or more pickled or cooked vegetables, usually in a box-shaped container. Containers range from disposable mass produced to hand crafted lacquerware. Although bento are readily available in many places throughout Japan, including convenience stores, bento shops train stations, and department stores, it is still common for Japanese homemakers to spend time and energy for their spouse, child, or themselves producing a carefully prepared lunch box.

They do a Thai version in Siam Thai for a tenner.

lunch in the Oarhouse today.

I wandered in at 3. Place was packed. I had Cajun fish cakes. Companion had calamari, it was all good.

Other notes. A party of eight arrived around 3.30. The father was obviously paying. He kept saying things like the early bird is the way to go and ah donā€™t mind the menu the early bird is great. And the house wine is lovely here. Iā€™d say he was a blow in from some place like Artane.

Other other notes. There were two tables of Italians feasting on frutti di mari which is always a good sign in a culinary establishment.

Octopus Tapas Bar. Tonight. I had a small bit of black sole and a Catalan Fish Stew. Companion had prawn and avocado salad and a Greek salad. We had two glasses of white wine each. 55 notes was the damage. Top class.

Souds pricey for Tapas.
These fancy joints that charge ā‚¬20 for main course of ā€œtapasā€ donā€™t really get the concept of them.

The Port House used to be savage spots for tapas, great spot to bring a bird.

Runt you are not pricing in the drink. The tapas was between 7 and 9 euro.
