Tipp team V Kilkenny

Cummins
Oā€™Brien, Fanning, Curan
Dunne, Oā€™Mahony, Fitz
McGrath, Brendan Maher
Noel McGrath, Callanan, Woodlock
Scrope, Oā€™Brien, P. Kelly

Forwards look a bit light, canā€™t see them winning much hard ball

Puke will Clare beat Cork this weekend? Iā€™m thinking they should and the 4/5 odds offered by Ladbrokes should be gobbled up.

Noel McGrath? Would this be his Senior debut? Theyā€™ve been raving about this kid since he was 14 or 15 years old.

Very hard to know, they should as this is Corks first outing while Clare have 10+ plus games played at this stage so they should be a lot sharper, although Clare have been poor so far and Mac couldnā€™t give a fuck about the league by the look of it and Cork will be well up for it as they have a point to proveā€¦Reckon we will win it alright but wouldnā€™t be putting a small fortune on itā€¦

Played and scored a couple of points against Clare in the League and also played against Clare in the Waterford crystal

Whats the story with Clare Puke?

Itā€™s gas when people conveniently convince themselves that their own county donā€™t care about the league when theyā€™ve had some defeats. Iā€™m talking about you, Puke.

Itā€™s the same at home with a lot of talk about David Oā€™Leary ensuring weā€™ll be fit and strong enough for the latter stages of the championship just because weā€™ve taken 4 beatings in the football. Apparently, weā€™re not sharp enough now because weā€™re aiming to be at our peak for August and September. Sure thing, weā€™re destined to go all the way to the All Ireland football final - as we tend to do regularly.

Clare are going nowhere runt, sure you know that. Just like Wexford and Laois.

In what way?

Mac is doing the same thing that he did in the mid/late 90sā€¦Pretty much fuck the league and try and have the lads right for the championshipā€¦

Just in general. I never really understood the place.

David Oā€™Leary was all the rage last year Bandage and now heā€™s a fool. Yeā€™re a fickle lot!

No, Iā€™m fickle.

He crossed me and he also did some things last year that I had misgivings about, but it would have been pretty trite to complain about them at the time.

In fairness Mike Mac has a track record for training teams hard during the league to have them right for the champiosnhip bandage, he did it last year, he did it with Offaly and he did it when he was trainer of the Clare team

Remind me what he achieved with Offaly please. Wasnā€™t he in charge when we beat them 0-9 to 0-8 in that cracker in Nowlan Park?

He got them to a Leinster final when they were shockingly poor, that was about itā€¦

Yep, but they didnā€™t even beat us, never mind Kilkenny, to get there.

And?..Think they also beat limerick and gave tipp a decent game of it in 2003 when he was over themā€¦

And? They beat nobody of note under him. You mentioned his time with Offaly as if it was evidence of exceptional coaching.

They beat Limerick under him bandageā€¦If you think back that was a shockingly poor offaly team with the vast majority of the great hurlers from the 1990ā€™s having retired, gettig them to a leinster final and an all ireland quarter final in his two years there wasnā€™t too bad of an achivement all the same consideringā€¦

He also trained Galway to get to an All ireland final

I donā€™t know about macā€™s attitude towards the league to be honest. What I do know is that they underwent a dramatic improvement in form once the league ended last year and by the time championship came around they were a completely different proposition. Under Daly, the league form was very good but despite the good performances in late summer the munster championship was always a disaster. The big question over this team is whether or not last years wins over waterford and limerick actually meant anything and I donā€™t think weā€™ll get our answer before the munster semi-final.
