I’ve done some shit job interviews in my time but some of the brutal responses by politicians during media interviews, panel debates & now campaign interactions never cease to amaze me. These people are media trained to the nth degree, have advisers/handlers preparing them for questions & giving them scripts & many of them are highly qualified professionals too separate to their political careers. You’d think they’d have the ability to think on their feet & go into preservation mode. I know Harris is a bit different in that he was one of those absolute freaks who joined FG as a teenager & never had a career outside politics but he’s been regarded as an excellent communicator & media operator for years within political circles. As you say, all he had to do was nod sympathetically & hear the woman out. Say he accepts her point that we need to do more & will look to do more if elected. He was similarly petulant & condescending in that debate the other night.
