30 years since I first went to a nightclub. Drank a few bottles of miller and celebrated Ray Houghton’s winner. 30 years and a day since I finished my junior cert.

Were the bouncers on strike along with the bar staff?
I was working in a West Cork hotel. It was hosting an AA convention. They had a huge screen brought into the ballroom for the game. I snuck in to watch the game there along with 1 or 3 other staff. The air was heavy with cigarette smoke and the bar men were busy refreshing coffee. There was a 24 coffee dock during the convention for the weekend. Ray unknowingly caused many AA’s slip back a few steps that day. We had great fun

We had an excellent manager who knew how to get the best out of a once in a century bunch of players.
Some lads expect it to last forever. We don’t have to be where we are but that was truly a once in a lifetime. Too many PlayStations now, too many lads who want it handed to them. Dunphy was right.
