No I disagree. I don’t think Tipp were at much that year and Kilkenny felt like they needed a year off.

Maybe Tipp underachieved but I think some people get carried away with how good certain Tipp players (particularly their forwards) actually are. They were wildly inconsistent, and some were serious downhill runners. When the chips were down in 2015, only Callanan really stood up. A lot of the other lads who often get lauded on here went missing.

Kilkenny’s flair lads had way more steel about them.

And the depth of the era was not good. Outside of Kk and Tipp, there was very little else

In that era, they lost twice to Limerick I think (13 and 14). 13 was a poor one. 14 turned out relatively inconsequential and would have arguably been a win if jesus freak Kieran Bergin didn’t fist pump his way towards someone’s balls after winning a free

You could say the same about now.

A truly brilliant Limerick team and some half decent teams (Clare and an improving Kilkenny)

Tipp would have won that final by 15 points. The rain was the leveller in that semi final.

How many times in that era did they play Limerick?

There seems to be a woeful neediness in the Tippos to be recognised as a great team.

They were a fine team in that era, but were flaky, inconsistent and prone to downing tools regularly. Lovely hurlers, but far from a great team. Had the tools to be one alright, but didn’t consistently deliver.

As a complete neutral that’s simply not true. Limerick lost a Munster final in 2014 to a Cork team who Tipp subsequently pummelled. Tipp were in the doldrums in the pub after losing to Limerick in Munster but roused themselves to have a crack at the backdoor.

Limerick beat them already that year and the year before

Tipp beat ye by a point man in ye’re next meeting in 2015. Both teams under the same management.

The Limerick’s are twisting themselves up in an awful muddle here trying to bluff their way through Hurling conversation pre-2018.

Its fascinating to watch.

Tipp hammered Limerick 2009 AI semi final. They beat them also in 2012. Limerick won '13 and 14 as above.

Looking back on that team, Paudie Maher was criticised for his reckless tackle on Michael Rice that time but Tipp would have won more had they done more of this.

The Limericks and KK lowered the blade when they needed. Tipp never really did.

That Limerick were in that semi speaks wonders about the depth.

Tipp doled out absolute hidings to a heap of teams back then (Waterford must have hated them).

I don’t see that happening in the last two years in Munster

Benny Dunne says hello.

So the best Tipperary team of the last 60 years, in their golden era had a played 4, won 2 and lost 2 record against a very average limerick team

Too nice. All about playing the game - the remains of the O’Shea ‘total hurling’ imprint.

When we were dirty it was stupid sending off dirt.

That was just plain stupid and obvious although Gillane would still prob have gotten away with it had he be playing Tipp.

According to someone posting above that average Limerick team would have won the All Ireland in 2014 if they made the final. Make up yer minds

We didn’t have a WOD or Mick Fennelly when the going got tough.

I remember when someone said they thought Mikey Breen could be Tipp’s version of Fennelly FFS sake :joy::joy::joy:
