Timmy McCarthy is a legend of basketball commentary…

The kids are roaring downtown here since it started

Sliced and diced and cut the cake on the way

He’s disappeared up his own hole

Australia despite winning 7 gold medals, 3 more than anyone else have only had one man winning gold, Cameron McCoy in the 50 metres tonight.

European men have won 12 out 14 of the gold.

It all sounds very forced now.

Timmy is the only reason basketball gets any respect in this country, even more than Star Donaghy.

Claire Melia would disagree pal

Between the swimming and the judo and the basketball the French crowds are seriously bringing it.

The first three or four days of an Olympics are like a 17 day holiday, it always takes a few days to settle in and get used to the timetables and patterns and the commentators - some new but mostly old friends - but the Games have seriously taken off over the last few days.

After the Rio Games which were shit in terms of crowds and the Covid Games in Tokyo, this is the first edition since London with a proper Olympic feel.

We do need a bit more of Ryle Nugent and Con Murphy on the world feed, mind.

The men’s soccer is up to semi finals and I haven’t seen a second of it

Maybe but Timmy sounds like he really loves basketball. Compared to Marty and Ger Canning phoning it in on the GAA for years now

Played guts of 100 times for Ireland as well as far as I know. A legend. BOOM-SHAKA-LAKA.

Timmy’s done it all fairplay

He was grand before he lost the run of himself. It happens.

Timmy was badly sick recently. Could have been the big C or something more serious. Go easy on him.

Young Fintan looking on there?

My dad and sister were at that homecoming. They were on holidays down that way at the time.

They nearly always make a balls of it. Made it easy for Mo year after year

The Olympics is not about Alexandre Lacazette or Michael Olise or Julian Alvarez or Nicolas Otamendi. It’s about escaping the suffocation inflicted by Alexandre Lacazette and Michael Olise and Julian Alvarez and Nicolas Otamendi.

It is not about Rafael Nadal or Rory McIlroy or LeBron James or Tadej Pogacar or Antonine DuPont. It is not about BMX bandits or beach volleyball bums, or a beach volleyball paedophile for that matter. It is not about surfing or skateboarding.

It’s about Mona and Rhys and Kellie and Ciara and Nhat and Simone, and Dickson and Waddilove and Liam Jegou, and Teddy Riner and Leon Marchand and Ariana Titmus and the Sinkovic brothers and that savage Spanish women’s badminton player and that Brit lad who won his heat of the backstroke and then found he was disqualified.

It’s about Kenenesa Bekele and Flo-Jo and Matt Biondi and Marie Jose Perec and Nayim Suleymanoglu and Lavinia Milosovici and Steve Backley and Fernanda Ribeiro and Felix Savon and Sir Ben Ainslie and Captain Mark Todd and Virginia Leng and Derek Burnett and Sean Kerley and Derartu Tulu and Dominique Moceanu and Francie Barrett and Hicham El Guerrouj and Richard Chelimo and Evelyn Ashford and Gail Devers and Steve fucking Redgrave. Sir Steve Fucking Redgrave.

Not Alexandre Fucking Lacazette.

Was in pub, didn’t see it either (as it should be) . France won but presumably the ex-Palace fella Olise was the factor. Bayern have two lads that completely mugged off England really. The level of forward they are turning out is ridiculous.
