Congress are the county delegates. Directed by the county conventions.
The FRC put together a sensible plan and presented it well. They did the leg work. And Congress had no way to ignore.
But again, the football counties are forward thinking

Well, yes, that would be the one way around it; a similar group given those kind of powers for hurling.
The problem is I’m not sure the appetite for change is there amongst the type of people who get appointed to those committees. I feel like Liam Sheedy is someone who would be given that role; does Liam Sheedy really want puckouts taken like frees? I know Derek McGrath wouldn’t.

I think banning quick puckouts would sort an awful lot of it, without making any major difference to the game itself. Other than more contests, and the end of those shitty scores where its puckout to a free man and a point
Heather Humphreys should chair the Hurling Review Committee.

The Protestants always loved hurling
Great post and summary. I think the massive improvements in skills development and conditioning don’t get enough credit. And of those it’s skills development that has changed the most.
The bas getting bigger matters but only in combination with the other two. The O’Connor hurleys were all the rage 20+ years ago and having owned a few the difference in the outcome was not obvious.
The skills now are just on a completely different level. At every age group and level of the game in all different types of counties too.
I think S&C has feck all to do with it.
There’s Junior B’s who dont do S&C, scoring frees from 90-100 yards.
But that’s just my opinion. Yours is equally valid
Roughly translated as ‘I’m fucked if I’m going debating this with you for the next 3 days’.
It would be interesting if they trialed a few games with a heavier ball.
At inter-county level only? It might be dangerous for goalkeepers and prohibitive for youngsters starting the game. Catching an even harder sliothar would be daunting enough for a child (or Murph from the Second Captains).
Is his book good?
If more people did that there wouldn’t be allegations of this place being a shithole.

Some lads just can’t accept people have different views I guess.
I think the ability to change your opinion or view is a super power.
Very few players actually hit the ball on the run back in the 90s. Tommy Dunne and Jamesie O Connor were probably the best at it. But the striking has improved immeasurably due to hurley size really, coaching and S & C. Then there is some impact from ball itself. I’ve an old O Neills ball from 90s and it really isn’t all that heavier or bigger than the modern day ball. The texture of the leather might be slightly different. The main difference is probably the core of the sliothar. Nowadays the core has more synthetic or plastic material whereas if I was to rip up the old one it would be cork rapped with threads. It would resemble a ball of elastic bands for all the world. Thats essentially why the ball is more responsive these days.
Is his book good?
It’s only okay. I enjoyed the first book about his club football career more. Particularly the dynamics at play in Milltown and how he was nearly a pariah back home when he wasn’t travelling back to play. The hurling attempt was a bit gimmicky.
Football counties had no choice. The game had gone to utter shit.
Some nobody corner back from Armagh being nominated for FotY was the final death knell for old football.
Agreed. And now hurling has no choice. The game needs saving from the spare arm tacklers and thrun ballers
With record crowds at league and Munster championship games the general public are not demanding drastic changes.
The GAA won’t act unless forced to do so.
Disappointing start for Tipp Minor Footballers today
Loss home to Limerick 1-04 to 1-09
