Art needs to get on board with the concept of the 15 minute neighbourhood

The majority of NIMBYs donā€™t realise this

No matter what happens, thereā€™ll be people in the block next door pissed off. The top few floors likely can at least see the sea and will see some sun light gone. They had it good there with it being a metal cager parking spot for so long.

Iā€™m sure a few floors will be chopped or this as looking at the site Art mentioned, it does ā€œchallengeā€ the existing ā€œtallā€ buildings and they will want to preserve some of that.

Itā€™s not the height thatā€™s the problem mate. The most beautiful buildings are massive. That is just a lazy ugly bland bland bland design. Itā€™s like something youā€™d see beside a roundabout on the Romford road next to two car dealerships and a KFC.

Looks okay to me tbh. Not sure what the issue is with it, looks a cut above the standard of the last 20 years.

I donā€™t expect Waterfront Central quality here but what would you suggest looks better for that kind of height and scale?

As long as we canā€™t see it from Howth Iā€™m sure it will be fine.

sorry harbour view.

thereā€™s no right to a view but there is for easement of light., and the development will significantly impact on the light of harbour view

Mrs @flattythehurdler thought Howth was a kip sure.

Yep but it will regardless for many of the people there. If you bought an apartment along the side youā€™d be naturally disappointed but it canā€™t be unexpected.

Iā€™m sure a few floors will be chopped off but will still impact many.

Can they make a high rise Mock Tudor I wonder.

like i said though, ABP shot down a similar development 10 years ago, affirmed by the high court.

cant see this getting through when even the FFers are agin it

I honestly think Dublin should be looking at buildings like the gherkin, the shard, the Walkie talkie etc. Tall and beautiful. The skyline from the far side of the Thames back across the tower from near the base of the shard is one of the great city skylines. This obsession with height completely misses the point.
What will happen when they finally relax height restrictions will be some turd on the city resembling the Hilton Tower in Manchester.

The gherkin is a fairly horrendous looking building. The others are nice.

This isnā€™t equivalent to those places, this is a large suburban town. There are plans in the works for this, which fits the bill really.

This is a residential scheme in a high profile but not a strategic area. In fairness, I donā€™t think 40 floors is justified here but it should be dense. As for the development quality, there is far worse being built in the suburbs atm though I think the quality has gone up generally.

Quality has gone up? It couldnā€™t really have gone down. Dublin has been in architectural decline since the Brits left. Some of the building is staggeringly ugly. All of those buildings in your photo are unimaginative, drab, boil in the bag office blocks. Hideous most of them.

I love the gherkin. Its an epic building.

Ah here. British Architecture was built off the backs of half the world from India to the States. The next time your looking at an ornate Brit building try to remember that.
