If you are an intelligent person and think about the game AND have played it a lot at a high level that’s obviously the most valid opinion but I think an intelligent person who thinks a lot about the game and played it a lot at a low level is better to listen to than a dopey cunt who played at a high level because he was strong and fast.
Everybody is an expert now, particularly online
Much easier to tell a bluffer in the real world but the best lads to talk the games are the fellas who have played at a high level or are involved in coaching adult teams
I wouldn’t have include myself in that, I played a few sports to a decent level but I’m not a deep thinker on the games and very rarely listen to podcasts, I think I can spot a bluffer though
Why do people double down on really dumb opinions. Is it a sign of weakness to admit you are wrong. When people are in a hole why do they insist to keep on digging. No no dig up stupid.
He dismisses Messis first assist. He is too dumb to realise several things happened on that Corner. Firstly he always knew it was going back to the shooter Enzo. But to give Enzo the best chance of scoring Messi does a number of things which engineered the shot. He feints to his right. This shifted the English centre halves back a few yards. So the starting point of any would be blocker would be deeper and harder to get out to Enzo. 2ndly he draws in Anderson by shifting back onto his left before zipping the ball to Enzo. A genius play but it looks rudimentary and simple but yet most players cant pull it off.
I don’t think he actually believes what he is saying on this one. It’s just for the engagement.
Ah yea there is nothing worse than the blowhard who didn’t play at all. But nobody takes them any way seriously. The likes of Ken early aren’t bad to listen to in fairness though and id say he was absolutely useless. Whereas I wouldn’t bother with ‘murph’ on the same podcast and he played sport at a decent level.
+1. Give me an intelligent journalist type like Jonathan Wilson over Keith Treacy any day of the week. Same in GAA with Colm Keys being vastly superior to Philly McMahon.
Murph is a company man
Keith Treacy was a big problem gambler as well
… obviously not a great judge
Anderson ran out of position that’s what created that goal.
He was attracted to the ball.
I know it’s all good craic but can any of the footix explain in any way shape or form why man city paid 120m for Anderson? It’s like something man united would do
cf Kalvin Phillips.
Taken so he wouldn’t cause an issue elsewhere
You’re not setting the bar too high with those yardsticks.
He played well for notts county this season hut looked absolute dogshit in the WC
He’ll rip it up next to Rodri. Strong athlete, good footballer, young; most highly touted young players fail in that cauldron last night, there’s no shame in it. He will succeed.
I was surprised all the RTE pundits were so strong on England winning.
City are in for Bouaddi as well. Going for the Arsenal template of physicality, with the exception of Cherki
Based on club football output, it was a reasonable enough position. It was 4/5 and 5/4 England fans to qualify.
England led, what was incredible about the game was what Argentina did at 1-0 down. It is there with the greatest 40-50 odd minutes in the history of the sport.
Spain will probably kill them on Sunday, but it is bye the bye. Because they were not fucking losing to England.
we have matured as a nation
I would be on board with Boaddi, have read some pretty sharp analysts that worry about his final third output which is always a factor playing in England
That’s the kind of devoted footix backing these English players will need & appreciate in the coming days & weeks.
Seriously though @Arthur (to do a Lampardian transition), Anderson scores very, very highly on all those metrics which are pivotal in a kick & rush league…ball recoveries, distance covered, interceptions made, forced turnovers etc etc.
