Both Arsenal and Liverpool were above Man City before those games so in essence they werenât must win. Anyone who watched Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp will know that it wasnât in their DNA to play for a draw at all. The profligate forwards were the cause of Liverpoolâs draws this season. Luis Diaz missed two huge chances to beat City in March. Sadio Mane would have taken at least one.
The only thing he is up on Ferguson from his PL time is the 4 in a row really. The variety of Fergusonâs achievements, the longevity and the low base he brought the club from puts him miles above him really. Ferguson basically achieved everything Klopp did and everything pep did and was more of a cunt.
Those 2-2 draws where Kloppâs Liverpool went full throttle for the win? Youâd swear it was like a 0-0 draw from the Rafa-Jose era where they set out to stifle each other.
Anyway back to the point, Arsenal finished 5 points above Man City in the top 3 mini-league. Massive progress from a 7-2 aggregate beating to Man City last season. The results against West Ham and Fulham in late Decembers were killers for Arsenal. Although they may still have won it anyway but for THAT Villa game.
If they beat Villa (H) they win the league itâs as simple as that. Liverpool did the double over Man Utd in 2008-09 but finished 4 points behind them. Winning the mini-league doesnât necessarily win you the league. Liverpool had a great record in big games in 2016-17 but finished a distant 4th. Arsenal will rue their results in London derbies not the game at the Etihad.
Yet Abu Dhabi failed to beat either Arsenal or Liverpool. This directly contradicts your assertion.
In the 1990s Manchester United often came out on the wrong end of the head to heads against their main opponents.
1992/93 Aston Villa 4 points Manchester United 1 point
1993/94 Blackburn 4 points Manchester United 1 point
1998/99 Arsenal 4 points Manchester United 1 point
In 1994/95 Manchester United took 6 points in the head to heads with Blackburn yet lost the league.
Agreed, Arsenal showed they hadnt the mentality to win the league, by only taking 4 points out of 6 against both City and Liverpool.
Whereas Man City showed how to do it by taking 1 point out of 6 against Arsenal and 2 points out of 6 v Liverpool. Thats what champions do in big games.
Some fellas here wanted Arsenal to go to the home of the treble Champions looking for a win. Then if and when City pick them off, youâd have the same lads criticising a tactically naive gameplan.
Youâd honestly wonder what fellas do be thinking.
