Price of a Haircut

@PhattPike They’re definitely open at 7am, last time I was in there early it was just the auld fella working though,

I asked him for a half blade back and sides, scissors on top - he said you’ll have to wait till half 8, “I don’t do those fancy haircuts”.

He grudgingly settled on a one blade back and sides along with 15 mins of giving out about the government. There does be some characters in there that hour of the morning.

I was just thinking you wouldn’t want to be going in there asking for fades or tapers. Good God-fearing folk in there.

When it was €18 I used give them €20 and say keep the change, not sure I’d be keen to tip when it’s €22 now for the cut alone.

I think they do one type of haircut in there.

Got the trim off the local Turk there this evening for the first time in 4 months. He had upped his price to 15 from the usual 12. I gave him a score and told him to keep the change.

I haven’t been for a haircut since the week before the lockdown. Definitely have to head in thIs week and get it tidied up. It’s not as bad as it was a few weeks back, it was like a haystack then. Previously it was €14 so let’s see what they hit me with when I present this monstrosity to them.

Would they get custom at 6.30?

They’re coining it in. Money for old rope too.

I honestly don’t know. I’ve considered it a couple of times on those crazy weeks where you’ve a list as long as your arm of stuff to do, but never followed through. I actually haven’t got my gruaig done there in years, Knights on Catherine St is my usual haunt nowadays if I’m in Limerick.

Job done. Sorted until Christmas.

Same here, got it done yesterday. One thing I don’t have to think of until around November I’d say

Confident guys don’t need to be going in and out every 4-6 weeks.

I’d some head of hair on me this morning. Four months of lovely growth.

I’ll have a lush of hair in early October with no need to tend to it until 6 weeks before Christmas. Lads on here getting their half high fades done every other week, fierce lack of confidence in themselves

Got a haircut yesterday which I was initially happy about but I’ve just realised that he gave me a straight line job at the back. Haven’t had that since I was about 10.

Probably the same lads that the barber was telling me this morning that they came into him looking for some magic formula to sort out the bald patches on top of their head from home cuts

Just back from my first professional haircut since about February. I booked over the phone a few days ago my time slot and when I went in I was delighted that my preferred barber was free. I might actually request him specifically in future, whatever his name is. The reason being is there is no intrusive chit chat with him he just gets on with it after a few small pleasantries and he consistently performs the job to the standard I expect on my big unruly head of hair. I have been to others with less consistency who will give you a great haircut one month and a dogs dinner of a thing the next month. Also he just says “the usual?” to which I can nod and away we go. I even tipped him now today despite they have gone from €18 pre covid to €22 post covid. I’d say there isn’t a dearer barber in Limerick? But anyway I am satisfied and also the price means there is no riff ruff to rub shoulders with in there. The no queuing system was a great experience as I used have to stick my head in the door before to gauge the queue. That’s me done now for maybe five weeks I’d say.

I’d say that crowd Figaros on Bedford Row could be up on €30 a cut.

They’re the kind of fellas that wear tweed waistcoats and flat caps like the peaky blinders or am I thinking of another place again? Anyone dressed like a peaky blinder or with a long squiggly beard isn’t going near my head. I have my barbers carefully vetted.

Yeah, what’s that all about? Every town in Ireland now seems to have a barber shop where the proprietor and staff dress in this garb. I want answers.
