Pubs opening

While itā€™s clear that the pubs have to do something, the ā€˜no walk in tradeā€™ you allude to there will be a massive challenge for rural pubs. It probably is the only way to go but a major essence of the very nature of the pub in terms of random social meetings is being lost.

There are a lot of people in my home town that would pub crawl, have one (maybe two if the craic was good) in one pub and then head along to another. Covid looks to have put paid to that noble practise.

Covid as we know it, will not be an issue in 6 months. We will have a few months where social distancing is implemented but it will taper off then and weā€™ll be back to normal by Christmas.

Forget about pubs until this thing is done lads.

And pubs will be packed as usual at Christmas? I would severely doubt that.

Pubs will be uncomfortably full come Christmas. Canā€™t wait

Not like you to be negative

Itā€™s not inconceivable, numbers will continue to be monitored and if it remains out of the general population people will definitely relax their guard as it goes on

It may be a positive depending how you look at it.

I think youā€™re buying into the scaremongering a bit too much in this instance me auld flower.

Hopefully an upside of Covid-19 is the end of 12 pubs nonsense

In mid January people thought this was a hoax, in mid February the general feeling in Ireland was it wouldnā€™t be bad here, in mid March it was we were all going to die, mid April the world is changed forever more/ life wonā€™t be the same again and now in mid may people are demanding things are reopened and even suggesting lockdown was not necessary. I donā€™t know how anybody can make long term predictions about the effects of the virus. In three months times we might be all talking about brexit again!

Noble practice, ? Those cunts ruin pubs , especially at Christmas time . Coming in pist singing and shouting

A local place here with a big enough floor area will be doing this apparently. 80 quid paid up front for a table with a max of 4 people for 2 hours. The 80 quid is your drinking fund and you can pay for anything above it on leaving the table. Works out as a drink every half hour for the 4 of you which is about average I guess.

Assume if you donā€™t spend the full 80 you donā€™t get the balance back?

Yes I think so. To ensure the full 4 turn up.

to even think paddy is even contemplating this fucking nonsense is very hard to get my head around, The three stooges have ye destroyed, they have taken over yer minds

Does this mean thereā€™ll be no 12 pubs this Christmas lads?

There wont be 12 pubs left

Nobody prepays for restaurants except for the odd deposit at Christmas.

Publicans can go and shite if they think people will prepay for a two hour slot at a table once the first week or two novelty is over.

You said yourself a few days ago about remote working and how this will change things and I think you can apply the same to pubs. If @Lazarus the publicans tells Paddy and Mick to pony up a few quid in advance to get a seat then theyā€™ll pay it
