Not really. There are some people who miss the pub and want to go back. There are others who can now see that pub life is not as important as they thought. There are a lot of young people who donât go to the pub anyway, they load up at home before going out.
Out where mate? The pub?
Theres a lot of sociable types who love pubs and engaging with other real live human beings. Theres people out there for whom being a bitter old fart on the INTERNET just doesnât fulfil them, weirdly enough
Wherever young people go. Donât ask an old fart like me.

Will all pubs be open the 26th of june or whatâs the story?
Yes all being choreographed and Mehole will announce it when he gets the top job in the next week or so

I understand the publicity side to it but that man is a 9ct câŚt
Do all pubs that sell food have a restaurant licence or whatâs the story? Iâm hearing that loads of pubs that have a proper menu donât actually have a restaurant licence. I presume any food doing dinners has one.
Not quite, I think itâs circa 4k for a restaurant license, possibly 500 pa after that, canât get it overnight either

Home truths
Journalist Matt Cooper writing in yesterdayâs Business Post said that historically Licensed public houses became the preferred venue for the consumption of alcohol originally because of a desire to stop people drinking excessively in their own homes. âIt made good public health sense at the time, and still does,â he wrote.
He also made the point that pubs opening will be good for society, something the anti-alcohol lobby will never admit. He writes:
âA generation has developed a hostility to the pub, borne out of their ability to purchase much cheaper alcohol in supermarkets and the return to home drinking. Many pubs are now seen as rip-off venues by customers who fail to appreciate or understand the costs involved in running the businesses. The fact that pub ownership is not a licence to print money can be seen in the number of premises that have exited the business this century â a number that is now set to grow considerably.
âAlcohol awareness groups have shown little sympathy to publicans in the last week over requests for earlier reopening and less restrictive social distancing. They appear to be taking comfort from numbers that seem to suggest that alcohol consumption overall is down since the pubs were shut, although the numbers may be distorted by several factors â including the absence of tourists.
They should, however, be careful what they wish for, especially as evidence emerges of greater levels of domestic violence being reported â something that alcohol consumption in the home may increase.â
Jeremy Corbyn hates pubs Laz.
Cooper is gasping for a pint
The public health angle of publicans always amuses me.
Pubs are basically charities
Full of domestic abusers.
