Question for the techies

They are

Agree with @TreatyStones and @cluaindiuic - get access to fan and clean all the shit off it, especially at the point where it pulls cool air in.

Would recommend getting a stand with built-in fans (plugs into your USB) - I’ve used them in the past and they will extend your machine’s life.

Post edit: @Fagan_ODowd has offered a BATNEEC solution - I’d run with that on second thoughts.

You cunt. I came up with the most practical solution here and you ignored me.

We crossed posts. Edited above post - let me know that the seething level has been reduced.

I’ll let it pass, but you’re on my watchlist.

Too late I opened it all up and pulled out a lump of dust. Thanks lads. How much would one of those fans cost me?

Starting having that problem recently as well where the laptop would shutdown. It was most often caused by a single program pulling too much CPU so I limited the amount of processors that that program can use. That program runs a bit slower but not enough to cause me any trouble. Its an old laptop and didn’t want to spend any money on it so it suited me.

That’s a lovely story.

You most likely don’t need to replace the fan, just needed to be cleaned.

I think @anon25556527 is referring to the laptop cooler pad / stand with USB fans.

They cost upwards of £10 of the queen’s sterlings on Amazon.co.uk. Don’t skimp.

Oh you’re some bastard. That’s the last thing I need.

Thanks lads the laptop is humming.

No problem. Happy to have helped.

Very unlike you to be helpful.

Did you use the compressed air in the end? If not, @Fagan_ODowd’s claiming of the plaudits here is excessive. Please clarify. This is important.

Of course he didn’t. Who the fuck just happens to have lying around the place. I’ll be talking all the plaudits here thank you very much.

To be fair, I do - but it is good stuff. My worry is that @Fagan_ODowd’s idea could end up blowing a load of crap over the motherboard. Was concerned his advice would have made a bad situation worse. That would have been just fucking terrible and a mockery of this thread. I suspect he meant to blow it from the inside out.

Having serious broadband issues.

The company I work for is located on a very remote road in Donegal (HQ) and has a depot in the UK and Sales Reps on the road. Everyone in the UK uses Remote Access to get onto the server.

We have a shocking slow upload speed from the HQ and this is resulting in a very slow response from the server for the remote access users. I’ve been look for solutions for this, I know the Fibre broadband is target for the road by 2020, which is a likely a pipe dream.

I’ve just trialed a satellite broadband solution but the provider failed to notify us of an issue with latency which seriously affects remote access users, we had advised them that this was the main solution that we needed the satellite broadband for so this was a most annoying discovery.

Can anyone advise on the costs and viability of a hosted solution? The only other plan is to fins out who wins the tender for the broadband on the road and try and pressurise them to give it a priority.

Hello, Mr. TD? This is company x. Is there anything you can do for us, we’d be very grateful.
