Question for the techies

WeTransfer?

I’ll have a look at that and see if it fits in with company policy. Its grand if it was my own laptop.

the best way isn’t to transfer them at all. The best way is to have some form of file share. Surely the organisation has that.

think network drive or ftp server or something

if its too big for email he could try compressing it to zip format and trying then…

Must be one fuck off PP presentation to break the email limits. I’d hate to be at that meeting

Chocolate gravy surely

Going to give it a lash

Wetransfer as @Copper_pipe said is really good but Google drive, OneDrive and Dropbox should be able to manage an owl PowerPoint

Looking for advice on mobile broadband/short term options.

My grandparents were asking me about getting a Netflix connection for there tvs. They have smart TVs but no broadband or Internet, being in their 80s they have no need for it. Neither have a smartphone to hotspot off either. Is there any routers, or dongels that I can get for them that I can insert a sim card into. I was timing of getting them a 30 sim only contract or ideally a prepay option. They are in limerick City so coverage shouldn’t be an issue. 4G will do.

I suspect there is no point in them getting broadband added to there contract as I don’t want them paying for something they don’t need. Again they won’t need it other than steaming netflix/youtube and whatever else I can get them onto my accounts. Realistically it’ll only be over the winter.

Theres fuck all on the telly as my grandfather said himself

Get a three router and 4g pay as you go sim

A Huawei mifi from amazon and a gomo sim

Would that work

Or from three

5G may even be available with 3.

You’d be better off with one of these

You would. They are on amazon for 150 euro.

3s website says there is 5G coverage in the area, would be great 4G should do the job. I lived about a mile away and only hotspotted with 3s 4G for the xbox and streaming without issue.

Are gomo rolling 30 day contracts?

I might get that and give them my old phone to hotspot off

You seem to have it fairly well sussed out there kid so I don’t want to add much confusion, but here’s the BUT.

At their age would they not be better off with a simpler solution like a broadband only package with an ethernet cable from the modem coming into the back of their main TV? Less complicated, better service and less chance of it breaking down. Would the phone solution be good and consistent enough? Would they have to move the phone from TV to TV?

Would the phone solution be so complicated that they’d throw their hat at it after a few days?

Thanks to everyone who gave advice last week. An update, was in yesterday with them. Was telling my grandfather the options, I was looking at how it would run and Ethernet cable to phone line and my grandfather said it was moved last year and a new phone box installed. Wouldnt ya know it was a wifi modem from virgin. They don’t have broadband on their package but my phone the signal was picking up a signal.

My grandfather said he’s friend rang up virgin and told them the story OAP over 80 wanting Netflix and they had a special deal. Hes ringing during the week to find out what is the story. Told him not to sign up to any contract as they would realistically only need it for winter until they can get out again. I told him the other option is gomo €13 a month and ill give them my old phone to hotspot off.

The TV isn’t smart, its new but a cheap enough lidl one or something. I’m thinking of getting an amazon fire stick, there’s a voice controlled one for £30 or a now TV stick same price. Any advice on either or? I am looking to have Netflix, amazon video, rte player, 4OD on it should be enough.

Not much difference. The Now TV stick is a firestick just locked down. It’s handy if you ever wanted to add sports for a month or anything but not sure how likely that is. The Now tv one has an element of voice control too. Amazon one will be less closed and you can do more with it but again not sure how likely that is.

Just bear in mind the RTÉ Player app doesn’t have live TV I don’t think on these sticks. Stupid design. But assume they have Saorview already and this is just for catch up.

Yeah the player will be just catch up. They have the virgin standard TV pack with the current contract so rte and the standard English channels. It seems to be six in one half dozen thenother between the two so?
