Quit Smoking

making it illegal for them to buy them won’t remove the option. It’ll actually make it easier to get them underage illegally

I found the hale shop the best, forget about the Foxes bow type places. Im off the smokes 10 months now, feel far fitter and have more money than ever to lose on NFL bets on the weekend!

For a much smaller cohort of people though. Majority won’t bother with it

why bother introducing a practically redundant legislation then at cost to the taxpayer?

it’s going to be farcically unenforceable too

My guess is that they’re taking the long approach,
It’ll be no bother to enforce after the first few years where there’ll be grey area as regards ages, There’s no corner stores left anymore, the likes of a NZ centra or Spar will do the right thing, and in 40 years time there’ll probably be less than 1% of them smoking,

Most people under 40 who smoke probably only do it on a night out. The craic is often better in a smoking area.

so a 30 year old man won’t be able to go in and buy fags but a 41 year old will or whatever way it works age wise ? How is that enforceable?

Aye social smoking is a thing particularly with women

They wont be smoking but will still be snorting the back off it, how innocent are some fellas around here seriously. It’s the right thing thing to do with the popular opinion so I will nod my head with it and wont question the possibilities it could lead to.

I don’t wish to be dismissive here, but won’t they be able to ID them, like they do for booze, a shop won’t sell drink to a 17 year old, a 20 year old in most of the USA, they won’t do that because they could be punished if they do so,
I don’t see why this can’t work
And I certainly don’t believe that teenagers will be so desperate to get their hands on fags that they’ll go to lengths to get them

And let’s not worry about drugs or drink or whatever you’re having, this isn’t about that, it’s a noble attempt from a state to nearly rid itself of a blight

because a lot of the older gaspers have passed away

Tinfoil hat poisoning is all you’ve to worry about.

Tinfoil is your field of expertise so I might have to take it seriously.

Excruciatingly poor retorts are definitely your expertise :joy:

Like say a couple of laughing emojis? Gimp.

:rofl::rofl:

You just can’t legally purchase them. You can get somebody older to buy them and smoke away.

Do you think large swathes of teenagers will continue to take up the habit?
I know I’ve been vocal but I think this is a no brainier, surprised that even current smokers could have an issue with it
I mean why the fuck do children need the right to take up fags??

I’m 18 but born in 2008, I can’t get them. He is 19, born in 2007, he can get them. I give him the money.
What are the punishments? will there be crack forces of teams going around catching people born at an arbitrary date smoking tobacco?

It’s a piece of unenforceable nonsense that will be introduced and gotten rid of at huge cost to the taxpayer, it seems, to garner political good will.

having the choice to do something doesn’t mean you have to do it. It’s still illegal (?) for children to smoke. When they are adults they can choose whether or not they smoke, or drink, or take drugs. It’s a nonsense

What if you want to get a cigar to celebrate a newborn? Off to the local crack dealer is it?

Alcohol is the next most dangerous substance. Should all people born after a certain year be banned from buying it forever to rid us of that too? You are dodging that question. If they have the ability to do it with smokes, they’ll have the ability to do it with anything they deem unsafe. Removing choice is always a bad thing, whether or not that choice isn’t to your taste
