Racism Continued

Look she’s an attention (or compensation) seeking moron. Just ignore people like that and you’ll be the better for it.

That’s old school thinking. Once she invokes the twitter mob, all bets are off. What was the manager of the Galway Bay Hotel supposed to do?

May be true but isn’t this woman’s job built around telling all and sundry that this is a racist country and we need to pay “experts” like her to come and educate us about our racism. Its a lucrative market. Her career depends on her being to race what bressie is to mental health. She’s given a public platform on prime time etc to spin this narrative. Which i dont think would happen in a truly racist society. Id much rather hear directly from people not engaged in the critical race theory perspective because according to that everything is racist.

She might even be a reverse racist.

We’re definitely not a ‘truly racist society’ or anywhere near it imo. Official ireland and the majority of people aren’t or at least don’t act like they are. There’s a significant amount of racism and racists in Ireland though to say anything else is just head in the sand stuff.

Well there’s the thing. Put his side of the story politely, and have the wisdom to realise that there are lines which when crossed mean the guest isn’t always right.
But I’m talking about you mate. You’re getting hot under the collar about a hysterical vindictive loon.
Any reasonable person can see her quite clearly for what she is.
Just accept that there are enough normal people to be worrying about, and shrug at the nutjobs.

One should always be open to having ones outlook and view changed in this life

That was my point. But that ladies analysis any time I’ve heard her speak is that we are a structialy racist country. It’s imported from US politics where there is definitely structural racism -

I support BLM but I wonder if it is the right vehicle to tackle racism as it exists in Ireland. In Ireland the problem seems to be racist abuse and the n-word in schools and on the street. I would say that the way to fix that would be schools educational programmes and some very light hate crimes. BLM is focused on police brutality which isn’t the problem in this country. We need an Irish anti-racism movement that is designed to tackle the problems in this country not other countries.

It was a hot summer night
And the beach was burning
There was fog crawling over the sand

The difference here is that a lot of the black people in USA come from generation after generation of being dirt poor and shit on in that society going back directly to actual slavery. In Ireland they are only here around 20 years and for the most part (despite the racist myths) are decent hard workers with a bit about them who have come here for a better life for their kids. If they are ghettoised and feel they’re not getting a fair chance theyll start acting worse and you can see that already among a minority of the young African lads.

I’d say the majority of black immigrants we have are from Nigeria. And if stats from the US are to be believed Nigerian immigrant families actually do very well when it comes to education and employment. There’s definitely an issue here around immigrant families getting housed in sink hole estates and having to deal with all the issues in those estates.

The insanity of the argument has to be pointed out from time to time.

I live.on a council estate relatively brand new.

Let me tell you the foreign people are.much more civilised and approachable than the irish infact they are great neighbours and even better people.

Do they get much hassle? There are certain parts of Dublin where the locals hound any outsiders out of the place.

The black families are left alone it’s the muslim families that are been hounded out.

One muslim family do not give too fucks about the kids they are out from ten in the morning until eleven at night.

Kids range from 6 or so too 12.

The other muslim family kids are ok but are tarred with the same brush as they associate with them.

You’re right to a degree. But there is official Ireland racism. We have a complete blind eye to travellers, whatever about problems in their community there is no doubt structural racism against them. I witnessed an episode in work last week that I don’t think would have happened if the person affected had been from the US or somewhere else.

Theres actually very strong legislation in place to protect traveller rights. Martin Collins from Pavee point stated this at a talk I was at 5 years ago anyway. And thats before they were granted ethnic status. The problem according to him then was the implementation and use of said legislation. Does this constitute structural racism. maybe but theres other factors at play as well. Lots of people are certainly prejudiced against travellers but on paper at least they have the same right to housing, education, healthcare etc as everyone else.
