This thread is in serious need of an upgrade, what with one roaster making a cheese sandwich or firing random shit into a bowl and calling it a salad, and the other spoofer creaming himself over his German oven. I’ve just started reading and cooking from a superb book by James Oseland called Cradle of Flavor, chronicling his two decade study of the home cooking of Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore. Will start posting recipes shortly, starting with the easier ones. Be forewarned that the common ingredients used are not as easily procured as parsley, you will need fresh galangal, fresh turmeric (sorry not the spice), lemongrass, tamarind pulp and palm sugar for starters. Well worth it though, this stuff is majestic.

Here’s another staple of my kitchen

Beans on Toast

Ingredients
2 slices of white/brown bread
1 tin of heinz baked beans
40g of grated mature cheddar

Method
Place both slices of bread in toaster.
Warm beans on the hob for 3 - 4 mins stirring constantly. (make sure not to heat them too hot or they will burn the inside of your mouth)
Grate cheese.
Place toast on plate. Pour on beans.
Sprinkle with cheese according to taste.

Did you ever add curry powder (according to taste) in with the bean as you cook them? Unrale. It’s like an entirely new dish.

Do you not butter the bread before putting the beans on? You absolute mucksavage.

No. But a great tip is to put the beans in a bowl for half an hour before using them to bring them to room temperature

Never did that. I’ll be trying it.

Did you see the way labane didn’t know what a salad was there? What a surprise

Another couple of hundred posts in the Ravenous thread :joy:

Noticed that alright.
Wouldn’t be on the menu too often in his cafeteria I’d say.

Chips and a side “slaw” would be salad in his mind

I hate Heinz beans. Are you not able to get batchelors beans over there? They’re your only man when it comes to baked beans.
