Am I right in thinking that if we lose to Switzerland but beat Denmark and the Swiss draw with Georgia so the top 3 are all tied on 15 and each have 1 win, 2 draws and 1 defeat in the mini league against each other…then we’ll finish third because our goal difference is so muck?
So if we lose to the Swiss we definitely need to beat Denmark anyway and it’d be in our interests if the Swiss won out to finish on 17 points and we’d take Denmark on head to head to qualify in second?
It’s gas we’ve only scored 6 goals in 6 games given we’ve played Gibraltar twice too.
Actually, in that situation - where the Swiss drew with Georgia - a 2-0 defeat for Eire in Switzerland and a 2-0 win over Denmark would be enough because our goal difference in the mini-league would be F4 A4 whereas the Danes’ would be F5 A6
But a 1-0 defeat in Switzerland and a 1-0 victory over Denmark would not be enough
If the Danes qualify by beating Gibraltar on November 15th, the key to Irish qualification may lie in Irish pubs laying on as much free booze as possible for Danish players in Copenhagen that night - and it’s a Friday
Our diaspora may have a key role to play here yet
But this is where John Delaney’s loss may yet be felt
He would have covered the bar tab for the Danish players and then some all by himself
Get them absolutely plastered, they’d still be recovering by the Monday night and the game in Dublin
Emmet Malone from the Paper of record thinks we might see 4-4-1-1 formation with Robinson playing behind Connolly
What sure what the midfield 4 would be.
Assume Stevens will be back at left back
Browne worth a start?
