But if this is a game where we will be disappointed if we don’t win (rather than one where we’d take a draw really) which I think it is, an extra bit of creativity may be necessary.
A front 3 of Robinson, Collins, Connolly does sound alright but I’d want a lefty at left-back then.
Could look at saving Whelan for the Swiss game and giving Cullen or even Browne a run.
Yeah played them in Germany alright. Trap’s first campaign. Whelan scored from distance when the keeper fumbled the ball or let him squirm through him and maybe Kevin Doyle scored too. We’ve played them loads of times.
Whelan got MOTM due to his goal but Reid ran the show and looked excellent. Like you say, he never figured again due to injury.
There also appeared to be some type of weird falling out with Trap as well, he would get back playing at club level but withdraw from internationals citing injury and gave some coy interviews. But it was never really elaborated on whether he had an isssue with Trap but it appeared that way.
Didn’t he take issue with Trap saying his career was over or something like that? Trap said he didn’t think he would play again and Reid took umbrage at that.
Last time Mick was in charge and had a couple of apparently good right backs at his disposal and tried to accommodate both of them by playing one as a right centre back in a three and the other as a right wing back, he was let down by Dennis Irwin in Macedonia.
