I’d say Gearoid Ryan knew there wasn’t really a place for him on panel next year. Always a great distributor and stickman but injuries and loss of form took its tool.

Quite a young Tipp panel now. Besides Kieran Bergin, there will be no outfield player over 28.

I’d imagine the retirement was forced upon him much like Mcgrath and Woodlock last year. Retire or be dropped.

As someone said above a great man to deliver good ball to an inside forward line. He had a huge 2nd half in the 2010 final stopping JJ.

Struggled a good bit with injuries and form.

Ryan was very good in 2009.

I remember watching him on tv making his debut coming off the bench and hitting a few points in a league game in Thurles and Nicky doing commentary and raving about him as a future prospect
He is young to make the decision to retire I guess he felt with the injuries and his age it would be difficult to get up to the required levels

He wasn’t but he’d a very good 2010. Barely featured in 09, but was brought into starting championship Team after the hammering against cork in 2010.
