Retiring GAA Stars tribute thread - May cause brain/neck damage

Jesus fair play to ya, nobody would have known he wasn’t a top class forward only for ya

It’ll be an awful shock to Gearoid.

Eoin Larkin

KK will struggle to field 15 next year

Good luck to him.

I am torn as to whether I would call him top class or slightly overrated.

Doesn’t have to be either. Super performer on many big days for KK

If anything he was underrated, capable of playing in many different positions and roles in the forwards, a player who made the most of his ability. Was very surprised to see that he only won 2 all stars.

Larkin, a true great. A fellow who always pitched up in Kilkenny’s hour of need. Could always be depended on

And has the satisfaction of retiring with a Hurler of the Year trophy.

And 8 All Ireland Senior Hurling medals…

One of the greats im(biased)o. Ultra committed, great wrists, intelligent. There was very little that wasn’t in his armory.
G’luck Eoin and thanks for the memories.

Brilliant hurler, great man to win a free…

Agree rating. And was never one to hide when the battle was at its fiercest.

A decently brief statement from an understated man who let his hurling do his talking. I have huge admiration for Eoin Larkin, one of those players who could go up a gear when needed and hugely affect a game. I thought he’d be there another year, is this is a surprise announcement?

Not really. At the beginning of 2015 he hinted strongly that it would be his last but came back for one more after doing a tour of duty. I think he had last done a tour in 2008 and came back off it in superb shape, went on to win hoty. Must have though it was worth one last go.

at least i have heard of this lad

Yeah I thought he was underrated myself, only got two All Stars as you say. Was brilliant in the 2015 All Ireland as well IIRC

Further proof how ridiculous All Stars and POTY Awards are.

Bang on, questioning this fella is another mind boggling dumbass commentfrom harry who clearly hasn’t a notion.

In terms of hurling intelliegence few would rival Larkin. He must have been an awful cunt altogether to mark. Absolute disappear for 20 minutes and then come up with 2 or 3 hugely important plays in a row.

I wonder how many Larkin types we’ll see going forward. Hopefully plenty, although the way the gme is being coached now you would wonder.

Definitely under rated.

A lot of the best things he did would go unnoticed a lot of the time. He was a great man to win a dirty ball and lay it off to a man running through the centre

He was also very good at getting out of the way and using his arse to create space for others and indeed conversely he was superb at seeing gaps and where ball may run for him.
GFoal against Cork stands out, that was superb. Can’t remember the year.
