Retiring GAA Stars tribute thread - May cause brain/neck damage

One of my favourite ever Cork footballers Paddy Kelly has called it a day, collosal while Cork football was going quite well at the turn of the decade.
Made a huge impact when coming on at half time against Longford last summer when they looked in trouble.

They hadn’t a clue how to use him best really.

a fud if that’s one of his highlights

I haven’t played GGA in 20 years and Id destroy Longford if I played against them

Not a bad player alright but Kev way overrated him

Didn’t Longford beat Monaghan to set up that match, pretty sure the concensus on here was that Longford were likely winners.
Anyway it wasn’t a highlight but I mentioned it to show he was still offering something.

+1. Didn’t figure much on a national scale since they won it in 2010. Nice footballer though.

+1. A bit tippy tappy for my liking.

Very good footballer with an excellent range of foot passing on both feet. He was a cerebral influence in a team of platoon recruits. Seemed more like a Kerry footballer than a Cork one, although I believe his Dad was of Scartaglin origin. Always enjoyed watching him play

To be fair the poor guy has been crippled with injuries since 2010 .

Ye don’t have an eye for the game if you couldn’t see Paddy Kellys influence.

The performance against Tyrone in 09 is up yhere with Maurice Fitz in 07. Absolutely perfect.

Woefully underused. Cork football managers are gobshites in general.

He was Ciaran Killkenny surrounded by a team of Michael Daragh MaCauleys

Good to see you finally admitting Cork were a team filled of talentless donkeys.

Not long ago you were saying they had the best group of forwards in the country. :grinning:

I am a fan of Paddy Kelly but his mention in the same sentence as Maurice Ftzgerald in terms of a matched performance doesnt quite sit right and the whole 07 thing is a bit odd especially seen as Maurice Fitz wasnt kicking much for Kerry come 07.

Any man that’s could shine on a team with Fintan Gould, Noel O Leary, Pierce O Neill, Michael Shiels et al deserves great credit.

97 it should be

You do not understand the word talent. They were in some cases some of the most fullfilled talent around.

Its extremely notable that losing Ciaran sheehan, The bizarre treatment of Donnacha O’Connor and the injuries to Kelly were hugely detrimental to Cork in recent years. 3 clutch players that oozed class.
Again i would question out foitballing culture and decision making managerial abilities as a reason for all 3’s early demise.

3 players you vastly overrated.

Substance over hype is what I go for.

All Ireland medals, 100% pass completion games(left & right foot), scoring critical feees and penalties in pressure situations, sacrificing your game for the team, staying the course when everyone told them to give up are the kinda things i go for.

Its no surprise that those 3 are the most revered in Kerry and by other county players when Cork vome up.

Kelly was one of the best footballers of last 30 years. We just didn’t get to see enough of him

I guarantee you that you can’t substantiate any of those claims.

The things that you go for are what happens in your imagination, you are a fantasist and I’m a pragmatist - that is why we are fundamentally different.

Kerry don’t have much to revere when it comes to Cork - as you said - a team of Michael Darragh MacAuleys - your words, not mine.
