Retiring GAA Stars tribute thread - May cause brain/neck damage

Thanks very much and much appreciated.

A pleasure, as ever.

Good shout, I was thinking there would probably be a few out there on 0-3. A trawl of the Dublin teams of the 40s might throw up a 0-4.

Cody’s management style?

There doesn’t some to be a whole lot of warmth towards Cody from a lot of his former players. Respect, no doubt, having won what he has won but not much of a personal connection.

Just the way Cody wants it.

Neither Cody nor any of his three selectors spoke to Joey Holden and Richie Hogan during 2021. Not ‘hello’ or ‘goodbye’ or ‘feck off’. Nothing.

Doesn’t exactly sound like an environment conducive to success.

Looking from the outside it doesn’t seem a particularly happy camp. Honest lads like Fennelly and Holden stepping away when they still have something to offer sounds alarm bells.

It’s Cody so nobody will ever challenge him but the lack of a puck out strategy years later - bar booming it long - is fairly damning. Any other manager would have reasonable questions asked of him.

When they were putting Richie on as a sub, how did they tell him to get warmed up he was going on

Maybe an auld grunt did the job?

Is there an All Ireland medal for literalism? If so, you win.

We don’t win many AI’s in Waterford so I’ll take it!

Probably still annoyed at Richie for getting himself sent off in 2019.
Hard to explain Holden though seems like a grand chap.

Cody is a strange one because despite the bad man management and bad tactics I still think he’s getting a lot out of a limited squad, albeit Leinster is weak

The standard of Leinster is fairly abysmal and has been for a while.

Offaly at their lowest ebb in decades.
Galway in steady decline since 2017.
Wexford held back by a lunatic for 5 years, one good season in 5 championship campaigns.
Dublin still flattering to deceive.
Kilkenny in decline since that great team broke up. They aren’t all conquering at underage anymore either.

What’s your thoughts on the situation at Old Trafford mate?

He couldn’t give a fuck. He’s counting hundreds of medals at a hotel in Limerick.

So he jumps from one bandwagon to the next?

RH and Cody never hit it off, from the start. RH is too independent minded for him.

JH and Cody is a much funnier one, because JH just trains away, diligently and honestly. No one can understand why JH could not make the backs in 2019 and 2020 – in 2021, even. But Cody has a notably ignorant side.

Cody was very generous to Richie Hogan when he gave him his place back for the AI Final following suspension in 2012.

I thought Cody was going soft in his old age at the time.
