Do you think Scholes was over rated?[/quote]
Yes. That’s why I said it.

I just wanted clarification, mate. That’s why I asked.
Depends who is doing the rating I suppose but as an English player he is probably the best they’ve produced since Gazza. Compared to the rest of the world he is middle of the road but I don’t think he has ever been labeled much more??
who has been better @chewy louie ?
David Beckham
Different type of player to Tom Kenny in fairness.
I’d have to disagree- David was a fine athlete, and got the most out of a limited skillset. But an above average footballer if you take away all the hype.
Paul Ince is another. The ginger wasn’t fit to clean the guvnors boots. Even Roy Keane said so.

I would have Gerrard, Lampard and Rooney all ahead of him.
How was his skillset limited, he had as good a right foot as you are likely to see and was far more adaptable and tactically flexible than Scholes. It is often overlooked that Scholes had 4 or 5 shite seasons at United between 2003 and 2007ish. Beckham also was a far superior player at international level and also proved his worth by moving onto big sides like AC Milan and Real Madrid and standing out when Scholes was busy playing like a drain for United, a few decent seasons before he finished seemed to make people forget about this
We have been over all this Scholes stuff before, he was a decent footballer but far from one of the greats. When talking about great players you should be able to name off a handful of great performances that he gave without even thinking, can’t say I remember too many for Scholes
The best right sided midfielder I have seen.

I never said he was one of the greats, pal. Just the best english player in the last 15 years or so- Which doesn’t read much on the world stage. We all know Milan and Madrid were as much commercial deals as anything else.
Beckham did have a greater International career, but that didn’t really kick off until Scholes exited at the age of 32 was it? I don’t think he was bothered by it really… I judge them more on Champions league if anything and Scholes reads 24 goals 7 assists to Beckhams 16 goals 12 assits- which is poor considering the amount of frees/penos/corners he took.
Beckham did well with what he had and drove himself on to protect/elongate brand Beckham
You haven’t seen many then have you?
Gerrard is probably the most over rated player of the lot. Lampard has a fantastic scoring record in fairness and is up there but as for dictating the flow of a game, he goes hiding way too often.

Alan Shearer was a better player as well. Would also have Ashley Cole who was world class when at his peak
Alan Shearer wouldn’t go and test himself against the best in Europe and was happy being billy big balls at an average club. Null and void.
Ashley Cole was the best left back in the world at his peak though. Outstading for england and in the Champions League.
He was. Had Ronaldo’s measure most days.
so you agree that he was a better player than Scholes?
please take this conversation to a football thread.
Didn’t realise Tom Kenny never got an allstar. Deserved one alright. Might yet be the man to finish Shefflin’s career. Cleaned him out in Thurles this year

He went to Madrid and Milan to sell jerseys. How had he a great international career? The free kick against Greece in a qualifier? What did he do in any major championship he played in apart from getting sent off and scoring a jammy penalty that the keeper should have saved.
He was certainly a better left back than Scholes, yes. But head to head it is impossible to measure as they are totally different positions/players.
