jez he used really draw the cork supporters ire! It got to a stage where if the ball came near him, cork supporters used to launch into a chorus of boo’s and all sorts of foul language! He really got under yere skin Kev
Galvin was a great wind up merchant in fairness. Always enjoyed watching him, a bit of a maverick who didn’t really care what anyone thought of him.
Has had a brilliant career and has the All Irelands in the arse pocket. Good luck to him.

2 things here.
I’m pretty sure he has no All Ireland medals in his back pocket.
Bandage made it quite clear he did give a fuck what people thought of him.
name a few of these Kilkenny men then. A Kerry senior hurling championship isn’t that easily won either. I suggest harder than a Kilkenny football title. Galvin has 3 senior hurling championships including a few man of the match awards in finals. To win an all Ireland football medal and throw in a senior county title in both codes in the same season is a magnificent achievement and is worthy of mention. very few have done it. Johnny Culloty of Kerry did it in 1969
As for Galvin’s inter county hurling career. Well he has an all Ireland minor b, an all Ireland under 21 b medal and played senior hurling for Kerry around 2000. Are you sure Fast eddie kicked ball for Kilkenny? others here seemed to think that you have mixed up your eddie brennan’s
Loads of James Stephens lads, e.g. Peter Barry, Brian McEvoy, Philly Larkin, Eoin Larkin and Jackie Tyrell would definitely have won senior county medals in both codes and numerous all-irelands but don’t know if they won all in the same year.
I think that I still think it, or at least I thought I did.
I think he’s an all time great footballer too.
A footballer of the year mate, and not the Michael Dara McAuley mickey mouse kind of one too, an actual footballer who could not only solo the ball with his good foot, but with his supposedly bad foot too. In fact there were times when he was through on goal and he actually kicked the ball, unlike the aforementioned MDM.
Brilliant kick passer with both feet and capable of scoring from distance with both feet. Not to mention his ball winning ability and exceptional workrate. If that’s not great then I don’t know what is.
thats informative, corner back. In the same year is the key though to the debate here. Wonder did they do it? maybe not as James Stephens mite not bother with the football if the hurlers were going well.? its fair going to put 2 county championship medals in the same year with an ireland
not true. played 9 championship games against Ulster counties and won 6.
featured on kerry teams that beat the following Ulster teams in the championship Tyrone, Armagh, Monaghan, Derry, Cavan and Derry. The only Ulster team he played against that he didn’t get a win over was Donegal. beating 6 out of 7 ulster counties doesn’t support your theory. Wasn’t scared of them. McGeeney and a few Armagh maor uisces didn’t come out the best in a few tussles with him in 2006.

In the big games against Ulster sides he was found wanting, particularly in the two All Ireland finals. He also got himself stupidly sent off against Armagh in an All Ireland quarter final.

apologies. I put Derry in twice. Antrim is the 6th county. Kerry were in big trouble v them one year - took 1 -2 from Galvin to dig them out of a hole. won the all Ireland later that year.
he had a great game in the game that he got sent off in v Armagh. some would argue that his sending off wasn’t that stupid. He stuck up for his team mates who had been shoved around a bit that day and days before it and they all ended up with an Ireland medal later that season.
his absence from the starting line up v Tyrone in 2008 was a big blow to Kerry. He didn’t do great when he came on but he was out of the game all summer and was only allowed train with the team the week of the final. Of course you can argue that it was his own fault. He played pretty well in the defeat to Donegal in 2012.
Paul Galvin, very good footballer, very good hurler, interesting character, did well against Ulster teams. I look forward to his career as a pundit / fashion designer. Thanks for the memories Paul.
