Retiring GAA Stars tribute thread - May cause brain/neck damage

Say please.

Down’s Danny Hughes has retired from inter-county football.

Not retired.

that’s what he thinks ! …

True enough but its fair to say it should be his call and not some tyrant midget

Brian Murphy warrants giving this thread a bump.

Cork corner back? Great player

Cunt dived to get John Mullane sent off in 2004. Might have been a great player but will always be tainted by being a cheating prick.

That’s Cork for you…Jim Power '77 etc etc, its called cuteness

I’ve rarely noticed Murphy when watching Cork. His man never seems to feature though. Prime examples are last years two finals. Big loss.

Murphy was excellent in the replay. Just not a particularly flashy type of a hurler so doesn’t really stand out.

Not flashy, but extremely skillful.

Brilliant player for Cork. Will probably be the best club player in Cork for a few years now with the break.

Talk about damning someone with faint praise.

It’s called “off the ball play” sport

Well I should have emphasized, he’ll be even better . He has been the best club player over last 10 years, himself and his cousin have done an amazing job in keeping Bride Rovers senior.

Spot on corner back. He seems to be held in high esteem in Cork and beyond. There were bigger names in that Cork defence that contested 4 all Ireland finals in a row who seemed to get the headlines more though. He was good as all of them and maybe better.

Some reports going round that Michael Meehan has quit the Galway panel due to injuries.

Funny that arguably the two best full forwards to burst on the scene around the early 2000’s have had their careers ruined by injuries, the other being Ronan Clarke.

Meehan in full flow was a superb footballer. One of the best I’ve seen over the last 20 years.

I had a uncle who died in Galway 3 years back, Meehan stood in the queue for 2 hours on his crutches (post cruciate op) and refused to jump to top despite numerous offers, class act

Thinļy veiled “my family is really popular and many people come to our funerals”.
