Meh Breen scored a cracking goal off him though and set up multiple scores aswell.
The cunt (Walsh) broke our heart that day in Thurles. At half time with the breeze at our back in the second half we looked in a good position to cause a shock. Walsh, though, took over in the half back-line and drove them on.
That half back line of Walsh, Hogan/Barry and Delaney was immense.
A player like Walsh (Welsh) can only be fully appreciated by people from other counties when he’s gone. It was impossible to much appreciate how he would routinely catch the ball above taller players because every time it happened it just reinforced the depressing predictability of Kilkenny winning and that hurling was going through the most oppressive era in its history.
But the cunt was an absolutely magnificent player and would walk onto a greatest team of all-time if it was picked now.
he was a master at using the taller opponent as a springboard…I saw him against Keaney one day and he let keaney nearly plant himself under the ball and then just come in and spring off him at last second to catch the ball…he had it down to a fine art…remember tipp put bonnar maher on him in an all Ireland final and maher purposely kept standing a good bit behind him for the puck outs to stop this…
The best thing about Walsh’s (Welsh’s) retirement is that I’ll never again have to suffer that inane cry from Kilkenny (Kilkinny) supporters when Walsh (Welsh) would catch a ball.
“G’wan Tommy boy!!!”
“G’wan Tommy Welsh!!!”
Sometimes followed by arch-roasters shouting the most inane chant in sporting history: “Ccme on ye sooooper Cats, come on ye sooooper Cats, come on ye soup, come on ye sooooper Cats”.

Still better than anything coming from the coke heads on the hill.
Maybe if we called him Tommo or Walsher.
Really? I would say he is hugely respected/regarded in Cork.
An amazing hurler IMO, I far preferred him and JJ to Sheflin.
Phenomenal technique in all aspects of hurling.
Two of the most natural and gifted GAA stars ever gone in a day.
Need new hero’s. Not much out there.
That’s an awful generalisation. Some of us prefer hash, heroin, or just plain old cheap 6% cider.

I think Hogan was a pretty average IC centre back.
Worth bearing in mind that the whole short puck out, running, hand pass game evolved from the search for a method to bypass Tommy and JJ.

Walsh - Barry - Delaney was the best half back line of all time IMO.
A brilliant hurler even though I hated the fucker, he got away with murder. In the modern game he was a bit of a throwback in regard to his size, and his scelping too of course. Not many wing backs of his height or size will even make it to a starting team as time goes on. Up there with the best of the modern era. Not sure he’d make an all time greats team, I preferred JJ as a wing back.
His haul of silverware will rarely ever be equalled again.
Mainly because Walsh and JJ were unbeatable and two of the greatest of all time.

Jesus I fucking hate those KK cunts.
“Stand into him Tommy”
I wouldn’t mind but the cunts don’t be long turning against their “heroes” when it comes down to it.
Brian Hogan got dogs abuse from them the day against Limerick.

Apart from the fact that it’s already been beaten obviously.
How does that make the above statement untrue numbnuts? I said rarely. @Fagan ODowd I am surprised at you for giving this a well clamped rating.

My impression of Kilkenny people has forever been coloured by this demented oul’ wan shouting and roaring at 0:13 here. Dishonourable mention also to Carey’s ridiculous looking celebration just before it.
You made me fall off my bike, you cunt.
Canice had to build an extension onto his house to store all his medals. Walsh merely used up most of his garage storing them.
