Road to Nowhere 2018

Disagree : when o Neil was buying they spent 6-7 million each on Hartson and Sutton. Big money and wages on Lennon , Alan Thompson etc . Ponying up to keep Larrsson with big wages. Come on ffs . Relative to MON , Strachan operated in a fiscal straitjacket .

He is the luckiest manager ROI ever had . To be fair he has instilled a spirit and they are well organised .

Oā€™Neill spent Ā£6m each on Sutton, Hartson and Lennon.

Apart from that they were pretty much bargain basement buys - Agathe Ā£50k, Balde free, Joos Ā£2m, etc, etc.

You are clearly a bit confused with Strachanā€™s era, he left us with a higher wage bill than he started with. He signed guys like Gravesen, Vennegoor of Hesselink, Jarosik, Donati and others on big wages. We had a squad of about 40 first team players when he left. It was a mess.

None of them guys were on big wages relative to MONs team . MON left a grey team on big wages in a time when the club needed to downsize . GS could not afford to buy proven EPL pros but was forced to go for 1-2 millions punts around the continent with the odd exception .

Big jack was the luckiest weā€™ve had pal

Disagree . ROI were utterly fabulous in the euro 1988 quals . The performances in Hampden and Brussels were top drawer . Granted the home performances were less so . ROI got a break but deserved it.

Very lucky v England , should have beat Russia and outplayed by Holland albeit conceding a freak goal .

Excellent in 1990 qualifiers . Had a decent WC overall .

Bullshit.

You told us Strachan didnā€™t have the resources Oā€™Neill did. He actually spent more or less the same amount of money in transfer fees than Oā€™Neill did and he left us with a bigger wage bill than Oā€™Neill. I feel obliged to correct you on the inaccuracies you are posting.

I meant with the teams he had, pal

I donā€™t have access to the total wage bill at MONs and GS last day but regardless you are throwing up a strawman . The bottom line is that during the MON era CFC could offer better players better wages . That is utterly indisputable . If the bean counters let GS ( who is not a very good manager) work up an unsustainable wage bill then it is obvious who is at fault . MON and GS both did very little to enhance Celtics future .

Yes agreed and he did not optimise his resources .

Oā€™Neill could offer better players better wages?

Strachan signed guys from Chelsea, Man City, AC Milan, Real Madrid, Sevilla and Barcelona in his tenure. He had the same resources Oā€™Neill had.

Oā€™Neill put Celtic back on the big stage. He was, is and always has been a ballsy manager who is not afraid to go at bigger, better teams and pull off big results doing so.

Tell the truth an be honest about the elephant in the room regards MON v Strachan .

Argentina are crap without their only true great player.

Theyā€™re also crap with him and heā€™s not truly great. He has blown up too many times in an Argentine shirt to ever hold that title.

Yes messi has led a god awful team to a word cup final and countless other finals and semi finals.

God awful? They are filled with superstars of club football and Messi has been peripheral in the crunch knockout games of major international championships.

That is backed up in stats and that is all that needs to be said to your nonsense.

ā€œCrap with himā€ With him theyā€™re one of the best teams in the world, without him they wouldnā€™t qualify for the World Cup

messi is a bully?
heā€™s about 4ft tall and and about 10 stone
