Road to Nowhere 2018

4 wins in 5 with him.

Nice to see Messi celebrate his freekick with such gusto. A bit more passion every other game now would be greatly appreciated by us Argentinian fans. His inability to unite that team since he became captain is galling. The armband should be given to Pablo, who is a true leader, a warrior, a man who can be looked up to and respected by his peers.

Pablo is shit

Pablo is a God.

The USA being thrashed and bottom of their qualifying group is beautifully reminiscent of England’s defeat to Iceland after Brexit.

Most republicans are gleeful when the American sawkerr team get beat. You are slipping.

georgia away is a horrible fixture also, their mugging off of scotland was what got us thru really and they have given us a dig out with Wales so far
i think in the last campaign, we didnt look fucked after the scottish in nov 2014, we looked really fucked after the draw in June 1015 in Lansdowne, they were clebrating that and logically after taking 4 points off us from 2 games it was logical in a battle for third, our freak win over germany also ( and it was a footballing freak, added to the madness)
we can beat Wales 100%, but austria serbia home and georgia away are banana skins, the serbs could implode at any stage altho i dont think itll happen here, austria are just really poor with the overrated Alaba trying to steady a sinking ship
its still wide open and Wales have every chance, a draw will do them against us also, as they’ll fancy taking us and sustria in cardiff , but we shouldnt fear the former either in dublin…
i cant see us loosing in Georgia, bar a Duffy calamity, but it may come down to that

i sound like a tard here, but i could see us finishing first or third here yet ( im writing off austria as i think they are abysmal and their defending v serbia alone means i cant take them seriously)

Georgia in general is a banana skin when you look at them. I didn’t see our game against them, but given the result of that, plus only losing by a goal to Austria, and taking points from Wales in Cardiff, it’s clear they’re not to be under-estimated.

At least we’ve 3 against them already. A big plus to look at is that there’s a good chance they’ll take points off others, and we’ve already established a good lead on Austria/Wales.

In our favour is that we have played two out of the three hardest away matches in Serbia and Austria, with only Wales away left of the “top 3”. It’s not like Cardiff is exactly istanbul either so we are well capable of taking a point at least there.

The Welsh still have us & Serbia away in their next two games. Thats two strongest teams in the group (outside themselves). If they lost both of them they are out of the running more or less.

While the Serbs still have us & Austria away.

Points should be dropped all over there.

In the next three games we need to hold Wales to a draw at home and beat Austria and Georgia. If we can do that then, worse case scenario, the Serbs win all their games to that point and they’ll be level with us going into our match but Wales would be 7 points behind and Austria would be out of the running.
If Wales draw with the Serbs we’d be in a great position going into that game.

Wales next two games against us and the Serbs are the key to the group.

Well said.

Any jammy win against the Welsh and we’re most of the way there, but as you said, even a draw stops them gaining ground. Having them away as our last game should be a big plus too, there’s a chance the game could be meaningless to us.

All going well. We are in a great position.

Game against Wales is a Friday evening KO. Should be a cracker, I’ll have to try and get up to it.

You’d want your head examined going to Russia for the 2018 World Cup.

I know a few fellas keen on going based on it being better the World Cup after.

Anyway - where’s Steve Staunton these days?

Brazil thrashed Uruguay 4-1 away from home last night with Paulinho, yes, the same Paulinho who looked like Jimmy Savile fixed it for him to play for Tottenham Hotspur, scoring a hat-trick.

Argentina stumbled to a 1-0 win over Chile with an early penalty from Messi.

Tite has completely revitalised Brazil since taking over from Dunga last summer. I’d be ploughing into them to win the World Cup next year if I was a betting man.

Tonight’s other European results:

Argentina need to stop playing Higuain and Aguero. The two of them have held them back loads in recent years. Dybala and Icardi would be improvements

Dybala is the future.

Holland 2-0 down in Bulgaria.

Whatever happened to Dutch football.

They have Bruno Martins Indi and a 17 year old as their centre backs. Big reason right there

Greeks beating Belgium, that would put them top.
