Steven Davis is an excellent footballer
this is really good stuff from NI, lovely finish from washington also
Norway look pitiful, a far cry from the days of leonahrdsson, the Flos and Fjortoft, they are heading for their fifth defeat on the bounce here,
they most really be in trouble as the have Josh king playing and a few fucking arabs in the side also, they’re clearly stretching the fk out of the various granny rules, but its a sign of how far they have fallen really

The best thing they could do

@Sidney, @mickee321 - I’m eagerly awaiting your brief round up of the group situation across the continent at the qualification halfway stage. Any big guns in danger of missing out?

Top two seeds not currently in top two of their groups;
Netherlands (4th & look out of the running)
Czechs (3rd 2 behind NI not out of running for 2nd yet)
Wales & Austria (3rd & 4th 4 behind joint leaders)
Romania & Denmark (4th & 3rd neither out of the running for 2nd)
Bosnia (3rd a point behind Greece)

Every player born in the six counties should be making themselves available to NI. They have as much business representing the Republic of Ireland as CJ Stander has to represent Ireland.

@rocko bring back the dumb ratings please.

I never knew CJ Stander was from an Irish community with a shared language culture and heritage separated by an unnatural land border erected largely to ensure planters from a different country could maintain their systematic discrimination of the dispossessed natives?
I’d have thought Standers family history would be more on the side of the planters than the natives.

Do you consider Windsor Park a welcoming place for Nationalists?

Any other elements of the Good Friday Agreement you’d like to see amended, mate?

You are too kind

I wouldn’t count out the Dutch just yet. They’re only three points behind second placed Sweden and have Sweden and Bulgaria at home to come, although they also have to go to France.

But they are the biggest name in real trouble.

The rest of the qualification groups are nothing to write home about. The main points of interest are which of Spain or Italy wins Group G, and the various second place races. Spain and Italy meet again in Spain on September 2nd.

Poland already look home and hosed in Group E with a six point lead.

At the moment I’d be calling the group winners as follows:
A: France (almost certainly)
B: Portugal (have a bit to do as Switzerland currently have a 3 point advantage)
C: Germany (certain)
D: Serbia (all to play for)
E: Poland (comfortably)
F: England (certain)
G: Spain (just, from Italy)
H: Belgium (they still have to go to Greece but I expect them to do enough)
I: Croatia (almost certainly)

I’d be calling the runners-up spots as follows:
A: Holland (still think they might do it)
B: Switzerland
C: Ireland
D: Eire
E: Armenia (this is wide open but I’ve a sneaky feeling for them as they tend to improve as qualifying groups go on)
F: Scotland (again, wide open but 3 of remaining 5 fixtures at home)
G: Italy
H: Greece
I: Turkey (suspect they could dig it out in another wide open race)

Of those second placed teams, I’d expect Scotland or Armenia to be the ones to miss out on a play-off. Both Irish teams should have plenty to get into a play-off if they finish second.

In the other continental races, Chile and Australia are in serious battles to qualify.

Nigeria, Cameroon and Algeria are in a group of death in Africa. Only one can qualify. Nigeria have a significant advantage on the other two after two games. No more action here until September.

Ghana look toast and Egypt look like they’ll finally qualify for another World Cup at their expense.

The USA made a terrible start to their group campaign but turned it around in spectacular fashion at the weekend with a 6-0 win over Honduras. With seven games left they should do more than enough over the rest of the campaign.

Fucking hell that was easy :grinning:

Looking at their fixtures, I think Switzerland will pip Portugal to top spot.

I think we might just beat Serbia and take top spot.

And I’d be surprised if Scotland came second.

The Swiss have Hungary at home whereas Portugal have to go to Hungary.

Portugal will need to win that to set up a winner take all showdown against the Swiss in the final game. I think they will, however. Then it’s all on the final game which again Portugal will have to win.

Slovakia still have to go to both Hampden Park and Wembley yet. Slovenia also have to go to Wembley.

England are way out in front in that group and I suspect they might be happy enough with a point in Glasgow on June 10th.

Could all come down to the final game when Scotland travel to Slovenia.

Some potentially really big clashes across the groups in the final round in October.

The latter stages of World Cup qualification are always tremendously interesting.
