The randomer they brought in to analyse the shooting when Derek Burnett was a bit controversial. Seems he was under suspension from the clay pigeon crowd for pinching a bottom at an event. RTÉ just hired him anyway because he was the guy they had in last time.
My RTE source has just told me Charlie Bird will be leaving Montrose on Sunday after doing Marian show from 11 to 1. I think Charlie may move to a different organisation though my source didn’t confirm this.
larry or others with contacts in Montrose, do we know if there are going to be (m)any other high profile RTE departures? Is Charlie Bird at ‘retirement age’ or has he simply taken a voluntary redundancy package as part of their cost cutting programme?
Con Murphy and Brian O’Connell are the latest high profile departures. The RTE London Bureau is closing today and all London based staff are leaving the station. An end of an era - I recall Brian O’Connell’s reports from outside the Old Bailey in London when I was a youngster.
Poor decision to close the London bureau in my opinion. Probably the most important of our foreign bureaus and there must be a lot more fat that could be cut ahead of it.
indeed con was the finest. He would make a better fist of championship matters than poor ould marty. any man that could make MNS half watchable must have some talent. He would be a better anchor man than Des Cahill as well or okey dok Bill O’Herlihy.
We’d never be that lucky. His commentaries are laughable when he does an Irish/Munster/Leinster match. Any decision in favour of Ireland/Munster/Leinster is correct while any decision against them is due to either rank bad refereeing or some grey area in the rules like the breakdown whereby Ireland/Munster/Leinster can consider themselves unfortunate…
Tubridy, Ryle Nugent, Corcoran, Hook - ship all the rugger goys off.
