As there’s 11 jurors though - can it be 9/2? I’d say it would have to be 10/1… I don’t they could convict on less than 10…

Rosanna says they can seek the judge allow a majority verdict once they have tried to get unanimous verdict for at least 2hr 45.
Id say will be some time before conclusion to their deliberations

Far from impossible.
I picked up a couple of very interesting nuggets from reading Conor Gallagher’s summary in Saturday’s Irish Times.
Judge Smyth directed the jury that the prosecution do not have to prove that the complainant said she did not consent.
The drunkenness of Mr. Jackson has no bearing on whether he reasonably believed there was consent.
But Judge Smyth directed the jury that it is up to them “to decide if the woman had drunk so much that she did not the ability to consent”.
I had assumed that this last point was irrelevant to the charges, especially given the line being pushed by the defence that the complainant was “intoxicated”. But apparently not.

I thought directing the jury to disregard the conduct of the police was a blow to the defence.

Mentioned it a few weeks back - met a business associate from Belfast recently. His missus is a journalist up north. She’s been in court every day of the trial.

10-1 would be sufficient but not 9-2.
10-2 is sufficient in a case with all 12 jurors present, so the juror crying off was a boost for the chaps.

Initially it had to be a unanimous verdict. If there’s deadlock after a long period of deliberation, judge typically instructs a majority verdict will suffice. They are already a juror down in this trial though. That helps the accused if it goes into majority verdict/disagreement territory.

The 3 hours would have become 3 weeks before any agreement would have appeared “possible”.
