Lancaster took over a side that under Johnno were reigning Six Nations champions and had just narrowly lost a World Cup quarter final to a France side (who in turn were robbed in the final when losing to New Zealand by one point).
In four years at the helm, Lancaster failed to win a Six Nations title and is the first England coach to suffer the ignominy of not making the World Cup knock out stages.
I think the “undisciplined” thing was just a convenient excuse for the English press as they couldn’t face up to the fact that the team just weren’t very good. The Kiwi press were just doing the standard SH thing, smear England. Realistically they just went out and got pissed which everyone else did but they were England.
What has Lancaster really achieved? That win vs New Zealand really masked a lot. The only other time I was really impressed with them was vs Wales in the first match of this year’s tournament. The rest of his reign seemed to be a lot of management speak and playing to the gallery trying to make the English rugby team out to be officers in the British army.
Lancasters biggest mistake was allowing an uncouth league ruffian and his boorish son near the set up. What would farrell know about the nuances of international back play, he was absolutely useless as one.
Entertaining game here, like the Ireland Liechtenstein game in the 90s. Namibia lead 6-0 but don’t think theyve spent more than 3 mins in Georgia half. Georgia battering the fuck out of them but loads of last ditch tackles / errors. Irish mouthpiece George Clancy is for once not making a cunt of the game.
