All youâve done is whinge you donât want foreigners coming here because youâre a small minded bigot.
it doesnât take much to bring it out of you.
Hope you feel good about yourself.
Iâll call you as you are.
youâll call me as you think I am, and youâre wrong as usual.
have a lovely compassionate Sunday you utter prick of a man, and Iâm bang on
Just not correct. The âmarketâ with housing is highly distorted, riven by State interference at every junction.
The one reform made to make it easier to build and that has seen success has been rolled back because people donât want the market to do itâs thing with housing.
Ireland made more promises than others, hence the logical decision people made to come here in greater per capita numbers than the likes of Denmark, France, Spain etc.
The promises unfortunately will have to be rolled back on.
Not half enough state interference. The worst of what we are seeing today could have been averted if coveney had acted or even if Murphy had.
I wouldnât be surprised if we start paying others to accommodate people for us as you suggested. Not ideal but it may happen. It will be messy anyway thatâs just the result of an emergency, there isnât any perfect solution.
Thats exactly what i said would happen a month ago you dopey cunt
Oh yeah? How did the âmarketâ manage to deliver 80k+ homes in 2008?
Not one of the opposition parties have a plan more profound than theyâll build maybe 10k more social housing a year. Maybe with a state construction company, many using private contractors.
Where is the labour going to come for a public housing construction company? Competing with private builders?
The promises that have led to more people coming here than the rest of Western Europe have to be rolled back on.
We can then move to a genuine Europe wide coordinated plan.
Ireland having 50% of what France have in gross numbers makes absolutely no sense.
You need to take a break again. Calm down ffs
Would you not put a leash on your girlfriend going around the place calling people bigots.
Ye pair of absolute steamers
Put a leash on my girlfriend?
Steamers?
Youâre showing your colours fine & bright today.
Itâs not like France or Denmark canât afford refugees and need us to fund them tbf.
Irish Red Cross stating that accommodation pledgers are liars
CEO was on w Pat Kenny saying that the Irish Red Cross have responded to everyone that pledged, he was not very convincing, he then went on to say that refugees should be accommodated in urban areas as that is their preference!
If this has been asked already then apologies. Also, Iâm all for Ireland taking in refugees, it is the moral and right thing to do. But young healthy Ukrainian men, why are they here or trying to get out of their country? Why arenât they fighting against Russia?
Because they might get killed?
probably a few reasons. But in the main, they arent a big number of all the refugees coming here. On the last count I saw, in August, 83% of all Ukrainian refugees here were women, and children under the age of 18. So 17% here are men, of varying ages. I know one man near me whose wife was killed and he is in his 60s, over here with just him and his daughter. So he is part of the 17%. I know another man here, in his early 40s, here with his wife and 3 kids. He speaks good English and felt that he would be more use to them here being able to work and provide for them rather than staying out and them here relying on state aid. Which makes sense. It might be a selfish consideration, but he is looking after his family as best as he knows how. Another woman I know here is with her 2 children aged 7 and 11. Her husband is in Ukraine as a recruited soldier, she said that he would struggle to get work her and felt it his duty to stay and fight. Another one I know has a son who is due to go to college. His 2 preferred options were Kherson and Odessa, but she wants him to go to Kyiv, even though it is much further away. She is here with her younger daughter and her son stayed behind to start college. He didnt want to leave and wanted to go to college as he had planned to do so
I suppose the main thing about it all is that behind all these numbers and stats, there are individual people and families with their own personal story as to why they left or stayed. As there are plenty who are taking advantage and getting whatever they can out of the situation.
Itâs a hard subject to navigate if weâre all being honest. I doubt thereâs anyone on the forum thatâs truly against taking in refugees⌠But Ireland is a complete shit show. Thereâs also hundreds of thousands who have returned to the country over the last few months as the fighting is largely confined to the east.
