good man…

Paul McGinley wants to include Jim McGuinness in his back-room team for the Ryder Cup. He also plans to speak to Mickey Harte to tap into his knowledge.

You’re joking, right?

Bandage, when you say backroom team, I presume you mean vice captains

The two are top drawer in their respective codes and there was speculation that one or both of them could be part of McGinley’s back-room team for the Ryder Cup clash with the USA at Gleneagles in 2014.

Speaking yesterday after a busy week on Ryder Cup business – which included a site visit to Gleneagles – McGinley clarified the position on McGuinness and O’Neill.
He said: "It has been suggested that Jim was basically going to be sitting in the cart with me. I can assure you right now, nobody knows better than Jim that that’s not going to be the case.
FRIEND
"He’s a good family friend, and he’s a guy that I admire.
"I’ll be sharing conversations with him like I will with a lot of close friends over the next two years, but the idea of him sitting in the cart beside me flying around Gleneagles is not going to happen.
"Martin O’Neill was talked about in the same context. Yes, Martin’s a good friend of mine and I’ll be having conversations with him and Jim.
"It’s a matter of me gathering information and listening to other people’s views.
“By all means I’ll be all ears, and by all means I’m interested to know if I’m missing something. That’s what friends are for, particularly guys in positions like Martin and Jim.”

Did anybody see Paul McGinley’s interview on The Late Late Show on Friday night? He said it was deserved recognition for Irish golf to be appointed as Ryder Cup captain and mentioned all the Irish players who have played in it with the pointed exception of Clarke. Of course, Tubridy never pressed him on the fall-out with Clarke either and just asked him in general terms if he was annoyed that other people were campaigning for the likes of Colin Montgomerie to get the role. I read elsewhere last week that there has been no contact at all between Clarke and McGinley since the latter’s selection as captain. Surely there’s a good story to be chased there by any Irish hobby/game journalist worth his salt.

You’ve the stuff to do this Bandage.

why does it matter if Clarke was not mentioned in realtion to Irish players?, he’s not Irish to begin with, he’s an orange prick, , you’ve been saying it here for years pal,
I heard an interview with McGinley over the weekend, think it was a podcast from newstalk either sports saturday or wednesdays night OTB and even tho he sounds like a right smug little prick he did manage to quite professionally make light of the C;larke issue.
From my understanding one of the reasons Clarke was siding woth Montgomery ( apart from them both having hunnish ulster scots blood) was that he found the appointment of MacGinley embarrassing, The yanks have a major winner like Tom Watson and we ( europe) have some european tour also ran like MacGinley, you can see the hun’s point

Im happy also those 2 utter cunts MacGuinness and O "neill were told to fuck off, someone had to do it.
Next Mickey Harte will be asking can he sit in the buggy holding a bottle of holy water or something, christ with clarke,. macilroy, o’neill, harte, macguineness, Northern Ireland produces some god awful wankers

I met Darren Clarke about 4 years ago walking along Grafton Street at about 2 in the morning with two (very drunk and whorish looking) ladies on his arm. He looked like the cat that got the cream. The cunt.

what are you on about ?

wtf?

It’s a well known saying gents-you’ve both been away a while but it has really taken off here recently with all the cool people here like me. Ask any of the lads they’ll tell you.

Bandage Pal - when you say irish golf and all the irish players, i presume he didn’t include Mcilroy and Gmac ?

Paul has announced that Sam Torrance and Des Smyth will be two of his vice-captains. Two thoroughly alright sorts:clap:

It pains me to say it but I believe that Paul McGinley is a bad choice as our captain. He’s a nice guy, but I expect he will lack authority and will not be respected by the players. He strikes me as a sort of David Moyes-type figure. I can imagine him letting the players off the leash to go and get drunk before the tournament in an attempt to win their trust and respect, but the players just seeing it as weakness.

The Yanks have the legendary Tom Watson in their corner. Tom reminds me very much of Jimmy Barry-Murphy. A thorough gentleman, but revered throughout the game as an all-time legend, and most of all, a winner. Enough said.

The yanks will walk this

Hard to argue with that, Paul seems a wee bit simple bless him.

Its an insult that a journeyman like McGinley got the gig ahead of a former US Masters & Open Championship winner like Sandy Lyle.
