How are the teams shaping up, guys?

50 days to go now and Iā€™d like to start examining potential fourball and foursome pairings.

I might play in this in a couple of years time if my burgeoning interest in golf continues. How would I go about getting in the team

Youā€™ll need golf clubs and a pair of white trousers anyway.

Not sure but I think I heard today that Steve Stricker has been appointed as a vice-captain by Tom Watson.

Thatā€™s a solid appointment by the five-times Open champion.

I have the former and a pair of beige trousers, will they do?

Through August 3, 2014

Keegan Bradley has to get a wildcard. His partnership with Big Phil was superb in 2012.

Luke Donald is a great foursomes player, chaps. Not a big hitter but heā€™s accurate and will hit fairways and greens all day long.

The way our team is picked seems to be four from the European points list and five more from a separate World points list, plus three wild cards picked by Paul McGinley, which will almost certainly be Padraig Harrington, Darren Clarke and Shane Lowry.
Ryder Cup European Points List
The top four finishers in the Ryder Cup European Points List will secure an automatic place in the 2014 European Ryder Cup team. The European Points List comprises of the players earnings between the 2013 Wales Open and the conclusion of the Italian Open on the 31st August 2014, with each euro the players earn equating to one point. The top four will automatically qualify for the Ryder Cup.

Lowry doing his best to get into the team with a very good showing in the PGA. Great to see only 1 English cunt in the team and McIlroy of course. Iā€™d say McGinley hands will be tied with his picks, Poulter and Donald would be certain of 2 as it is. The other is up in the air between F Molinari, Jimenez, and Westwood Iā€™d say. Of course if Lowry, Westwood, Luiten or E Molinari managed to win this week a lot can change.

Where does the Coppers Romeo need to finish to resh this austere occasion Anto?

A win would suffice, but it is very early to call, 2nd or 3rd might do depending on where some of the others around do. Whatever way it goes, it is edge of the seat stuff.

The Americans will win this. They have a clear advantage in the captaincy stakes. Tom Watson is one of the all time greats of the game and has previous experience as a winning captain in 1993. Paul McGinley is a journeyman nobody. How did he even get the gig in the first place? Is Jim McGuinness still been touted for a role in the backroom team?

#believe

As most Ryder Cup fans will probably already know at this stage, Tiger Woods has informed Team USA captain Tom Watson that he is unavailable for selection for this yearā€™s tournament.

Thatā€™s a huge plus for Team USA.

@Sidney , could you advise the forum if any special customs or traditions are adhered to at the Perthshire course?

as an aside, Paul McGinley is a disgusting creep.
How is that no mark the captain of the team?

Tom Watson will crush him like a bug (in the very gentlemanly, respectful manner that you associate with the all-time legend).

Europe needed Monty to have any chance.

Iā€™m sure more closer followers of golf were already aware of this but I just heard there yesterday that Des Smyth is vice captain of Team Europe. Des unlike McGinley has real pedigree and was part of the victorious Dunhill Cup team in Scotland in 1988.

i would also like to have seen Eamon Darcy involved, the former Volvo Belgian Open Champion is a stalwart of the sport and was a a regular feature when Greg Allen would go thru the best of the Irish when reporting on events like the Portugeese open from Estorilā€¦ Ronan Rafferty another from the golden age of Irish golf would also have been a welcome addition
