Knew you wouldn’t resist
Got a Mackey Stand ticket for this today…heard that both stands are now sold out…
Will there be highlights of this thing on Saturday night? Its clashing with the U-21 hurling final in Cork unfortunately.
54-1
Glad I didn’t go.
Australia 105 Cork Colleges Select 12 FT.
Was it players from the main squad Australia had out or a second squad?
No, it was their main team. They are awesomely athletic, they really did go for speed this year. Only Johnny Buckley with a couple of catches and Ciaran Sheehan who only played for about 6-7 minutes looked up to it, you can see why these guys liked Sheehan. The tackle really is the massive advantage they have to the game. Their kicking was woeful though, and they’d have to improve on that, even the warm up drill was hilarious, 14-15 shots in a row missed in front of goal with nobody on them.
There was a guy Goode i think, a 6’5 Aboriginal guy, think he plays for Swans, what a player. He has obviously been practicing with the round ball. Incredibly fast, strong and good in the air, and scored with both left and right. Brilliant kick passer as well.
Still though Ireland should be too good for them.
Johnny Buckly is turning into a very good midfielder, he’ll more then likely play the national league for Kerry. How did Barry John Walsh play? He has a bit to find if he’s to live up to his brother. On a quick glance the Irish team looked full of good speedy players, Sean Og thrown into the mix as well.
The Irish CIT/UCC team you mean? Nah, not the same type of powerful speed. The speed you develop training twice a day for a couple of years compared to training 4-6 times a week is unbelievable. The College players had a few guys who’d been beering as well from County finals and the like over the weekend. There was a huge crowd there though considering what it was.
Sean Og wasn’t even there, from what i could see.
On Buckley, i’ve only seen him with Crokes twice, but mainly with UCC and have been very impressed, but i believe for some reason a pile of people don’t rate him in Kerry, including Jack O’ Connor. I would have thought he’d be seen this year, he is better than anything Moran or Maher has shown in the past 2 years IMO.
Barry Walsh was terrible by the way, but he wasn’t alone.
Buckley gets criticised needlessly alright, I think mainly because he can be inconsistent during matches, but he’s a good powerful midfielder and I’ve seen him destroy Darragh O’Se more then once. He’s no doubt been on the sauce since last weekend after winning the county championship.
Ya, he can go out of games for periods, but jesus when he gets going he’s unreal. He’ll win ball after ball and there isn’t much anyone can do about it.
So, who’s attending Saturday night? The weather is given to be wet, it’ll be fairly bleak in the uncovered stand!
I’ll be in the uncovered stand and i have no fear of the weather as i’ll be wearing a cap…
I’m thinking it could be the ideal night for a hip flask.
Agreed but could one put in it? Captain Morgan rum?
yeah he’s there captain this year. great player. played a few years ago and was one of their better players then. hes about 30 now so in his latter years, suprised he seems that fast tho. the likes of wojinski and varcoe would have way more pace. maybe hes quick for a big guy?
heading down to it alright, uncovered stand too! right craic! missus wont be happy with the rain.
I’m in the same boat.
I can see it being an effort to get her to leave the pub if it’s bucketing down.
Ah ya i suppose for a big guy, but extremely fast for a big guy. They definitely had quicker lads, but they are a freakishly quick team. He was still quicker than everyone on the CIT/UCC team bar Sheehan.
Impressive guy.
