Si has them purring

So the big housing policy launch didn’t exactly get them purring.

Fairly incredible that we’ve never had an outwardly ‘left leaning’ government ie led by a party that would describe themselves as that and with the demise of SF no prospect of it in the foreseeable future. Are we the only country in the western world who hasn’t?

I’d say FF would have described themselves as left leaning traditionally? Also every major party in Ireland is left leaning

Traditionally they leant whichever way the wind blew.

And we’ve done alright by that.

For all the moaning people do about the government they are happy enough really

The alternatives are all shitshows. Also parish pump is still alive and well

Yeah but the effect of SF dragging ffg left is quite apparent. You’ve a proud right wing fg taoiseach announcing he plans to effectively nationalise early years childcare because the market isnt working. Thats pretty left wing.

We need to get FG/FF back in without the Greens and we will get the motorway to Cork going and we will be lifting altogether

A heap of the “issues” - housing, health or immigration - don’t affect/effect most voters

I have my house. So the housing crisis suits me

Yes if we let them apply their housing policy of let the market fix it to everything else we’d really be flying it.

Fellas want houses to be cheap for everyone else but for their own to continue to shoot up in value

That UHL is a right shit show but Sinn Fein have no plans to fix that mess either. That would involve going into the HSE and burning the place to the ground and starting again. No one’s going to do that

We need to solve the housing crisis but not build any houses near anyone. When the shinners figure that out they’ll be elected

No one will touch health too much. It’s a bottomless pit of money

You know the old adage, you can please some of the people some of the time yada, yada, yada

Mike,

I want to clarify something about the phrase “You can please some of the people some of the time, but not all of the people all of the time.” While it’s a popular saying, often attributed to Abraham Lincoln, it is not an old adage. Here’s why:

An adage is typically an ancient, time-honored expression that has been passed down through many generations, often with roots in folklore or wisdom from centuries ago. The phrase you’re referencing, however, originated in the 19th century—relatively recent in historical terms. Just because something expresses a universal truth doesn’t mean it qualifies as an old adage.

Calling this phrase an “old adage” dilutes the meaning of the term “old.” Something from the 1800s is modern when compared to proverbs and sayings that have survived for millennia. Let’s be precise here: this phrase may be insightful, but it is not from the deep well of ancient wisdom.

Best,
LLF
