I’m very ignorant on the matter but could somebody tell me the significance of the American visas in the peace talks ?

Bill Clinton gave Gerry Adams one in the early 90’s to show his support for Adams in his attempts towards getting a ceasefire.

Adams had never been granted one previously.

Saying more fellas got them as well. Seems. Stumbling block at the time of the negotiations. A bit odd to me.

Gerry Adams had to sell the peace deal to America supporters. Obliviously easier to do face to face. Also symbolically giving them a visa showed America was able to stand up to the British government in support of republicans.
