And I’ll do just that by comparing EU rail with IE rail
Bus Éireann wins Waterford bus routes tender
Bus Éireann has won the National Transport Authority tender to operate five Waterford city bus routes where it is already running the services.
And I’ll do just that by comparing EU rail with IE rail
Cool. Don’t forget to compare like with like.
And there was I thinking a first principle of accounting was to make the costs less than the revenues but I suspect you’re not mad about that one
In a company aimed at profitability I’m sure its vitally important. In a company that provides a public service I’m not sure if it should be to the fore.
Any figures yet Fooley ? Or are you just waving the white flag.

Not yet bummer. Don’t worry I’ll have them when I’m not busy. Some of us do more than hand out copies of aontas, some of us have busy work.
Ok. If you want to let it slide I’m ok with that.
Just be careful in future sticking your snout into industrial disputes that you know nothing about and feel it’s ok to comment on.

Never came back to you on this.
Company doesn’t need to be profitable but “not for profit” doesn’t equal loss-making (notwithstanding lots of semi-states paying the state dividends over the years)
In any event, it is already loss-making to the tune of hundreds of millions per year when you strip out the €110m annual subvention handout or the €112 pso obligation it gets from the government.
Whoever mentioned ‘not for profit’ ?
That makes the our public transport service sound like a charity.

Well you’re either for profit or not for profit. This isn’t complicated stuff - make up your mind.
I wish the management in Irish rail would make their minds up.
If they decide that it’s to be run for profit, fine, don’t bother to perform the loss making routes so.
If they decide it to provide a public service, fine, let the state fund the loss making routes.
The union would fully embrace either option so that their members would stay ahead of the poverty trap.

I think they have made up their mind mate. They are under contract to the National Transport Authority until 2019 to deliver loss-making services for cash i.e. the €112m I referenced. The state already funds those routes.
“Each year funding is provided for socially necessary but financially unviable public transport services in Ireland”

To quote a recent hurler on the ditch (clue: it’s you) - " be careful in future sticking your snout into industrial disputes that you know nothing about and feel it’s ok to comment on"

Who said anything about letting it slide? I’ll do it when I’m ready, not when some jumped up shop steward wants. Remember I outrank you bitch.

As with Bus Eireann, you know well that the losses we’re talking about are after the state subvention. It is only the state subsidised routes for example, where BE can turn a buck - hence why private operators are queuing up to take them. Without the shackles of a Union, they’d make serious money off of these.

Fair play. Puts an end to the argument that the tenders were only there to remove BE
Kevin Traynor of the Coach Tourism and Transport Council said private operators had been pioneers in extending services and local companies would have better local knowledge.
What a bizarre statement, you’d swear Bus Eireann were a Chinese company or something.
Yep. Keep calling me names but refuse to back up your silly claims with facts and figures.
You’re a beaten docket buddy. Well beaten.
Yeah, meet your ‘local’ private bus driver, Dominykas, all the way from Lithuania.
Works for the minimum wage and draws the FIS, thank you all for subsidizing his family and in effect subsidizing this bus trip.
