Studying or not

Backtrack.

Total bollox and its the spreading of that attitude that means relatively few people from certain backgrounds go to college. In fact id say its the main one. It’s the inherited study skills, attitude to study and general social capital like that are key not money.
Esteban will no doubt say he pulled himself up by the bootstraps and loads of us did but the stats don’t lie.
All things being equal a fella with family who knows the ins and outs of studying will do better than ones who don’t generally.
Fair fucks to corky for taking an active interest and it could make a huge difference

I’m open to all suggestions as I’m a guy who fucked out my early life , drink shagging and republican stuff which followed me around and caused me nothing but angst and all around me were hurt north and south, only getting normality last 15 or so and don’t want him anywhere near my former life ,
Want him educated and the ability to choose for himself

His young lad will be fine just based on that is my guess.

He can do arts then the two year dip… So if he thinks he won’t get 450+ plus maybe that’s the best route. There’s also 4 year specific courses that incorporate teaching into them. Like PE + your other subject in UCC. Also, look at MIC thurles…they do four year degrees on limited subjects but teaching is built into the degree… Think they do business studies, religion and possibly Irish… it’s limited but it’s an option… otherwise, do an arts degree, ride all around him and then get serious to do the dip after it.

yeah that is the reason people from certain backgrounds don’t go to college

It’s one of the main ones

people treating the leaving cert student like an adult, which in most cases they are?

Riding.

Tell him about the riding .

Loads of riding.

This time of year that’s plenty imho.

Virtual riding these days.

Sure you already admitted you were talking shite :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

I’m from a middle class background originally as in I lived on a nice middle class part of Bishopstown ( father working class/ mother’s gang in Kerry fairly ok bobs wise) so really can’t say that background dictates nowadays as it did years ago as to who goes onto 3rd level .
I went to do a college course years ago loved it but really couldn’t hack it as the grant wasn’t enough and I wasn’t up to some of the subjects, loved it but had to go back up the ladder after a few months

and it drew out an absolute pile of shite from you.

why did you mention people from a certain background in relation to what I said? Are people from a certain backgrounds parents not as good as peoples parents from other backgrounds?

Now that is absolute bollocks

I know a Good few PE teachers who went across the pond for their PE qualification.

Is it still free in Scotland?

No idea

I haven’t endless time to be arguing but I’d say most people got my point.
The stats on who goes and who doesn’t go to college couldn’t be clearer. With grants available financial barriers are huge but in my view not the main one. The things i outlined are massive. Simple knowledge of the system and how to effectively study. Corky has recognised this himself and his young fella will do all the better for it

Well never thought of that but thanks

Were you home schooled?
