Carlos Tevez has informed Sir Alex *Ferguson that he has no plans to return to Manchester United despite the clubâs renewed efforts to persuade him to reject Manchester Cityâs overtures.
Ferguson has interrupted his holiday in the south of France several times over the past two weeks to ring Tevez and appeal to him to think carefully about the consequences of leaving a club of Unitedâs standing, but the Argentinian has now told the manager that he planned to sever his ties with the *Premier League champions.
That is unlikely to prevent Ferguson trying to persuade him from changing his mind before the striker officially becomes a free agent on 30 June, but Unitedâs management are realistic about the situation and increasingly fear that Tevez will soon confirm he is following Cristiano Ronaldo out of the club.
City have offered Tevez a 75% pay rise, meaning a 140,000-a-week salary, and the chance to re-establish himself as a first-choice player, whereas, tellingly, in all the various discussions with Ferguson there has been no indication from the manager Tevez can expect to play in more of *Unitedâs key games this season.
Tevezâs main grievance is the frequency with which he was left out of Unitedâs bigger matches last season and he has come to feel disenchanted because of the way the clubâs chief executive, David Gill, has *handled his proposed signing, repeatedly postponing talks before publicly stating that he thought Tevez was over-priced. That has left the way clear for City to capitalise and, unless Ferguson can convince Tevez otherwise, the Abu Dhabi-owned club confidently expect to pull off one of their biggest transfer coups of modern times despite Liverpool also maintaining their own interest in Tevez.
City have the advantage because they can afford to pay Tevez the higher salary and have informed the consortium that owns the playerâs economic rights they will pay the 25.5m fee in one sum whereas Liverpoolâs proposal is to drag it out with instalments over the course of his contract.
Tevez is also aware that moving to Anfield would irreparably tarnish his standing among those United supporters who have been campaigning for him to stay at Old Trafford. The player is described as âtribalâ and is aware of the intense rivalry between United and Liverpool but, in his mind, he does not believe it would cause so much bad feeling if he went to City.
Barcelona have admitted holding âopen talksâ with Valencia over Spain striker David Villa.
Villa was thought to be close to leaving cash-strapped Valencia for Real Madrid, but the Primera Liga champions have now confirmed their interest in the 27-year-old.
Barcaâs vice-president Rafael Yuste told Radio Catalunya: 'There are many players who are interested in coming to play at Barcelona and I think that people have to know this.
âThe talks (over Villa) are absolutely open.â
It is thought Villa himself will make the final decision, after his involvement in the Confederations Cup in South Africa is concluded.
Looks like mowbray is busy bringing world class talent to Glasgow CelticâŚMarco Antonio fortune and Valero are both set to sign from West BromâŚA move for Jonathon Greening has been ruled out due to his wage demands
Paul Robinson has also expressed his desire to follow Mogga from West Brom. A shame for Real Madrid that these potential Celtic purchases are putting their transfer dealings in the shade.
That doesnât sound good. Cesc hasnât really been one to make those type of comments in the past or has he? He seemed to me to have his head more screwed on than most other players of his age.
Is the tide turning back to La Liga? Sky wonât be too happy if the EPL lose a shed load of marquee players this summer.
To be honest with you Iâd be saying he has a screw loose if he wasnât interested in going from Arsenal to Barcelona. Different stature of club and football completely. Hope he gets his move as he appears to have potential
Looks like Deco and Carvalho are on their way to Inter, Deco was a complete flop and showed exactly why Pep got rid of him but Carvalho is still a class act and has been the best centre half in england for the past 4 or 5 years(last season excluded)âŚAlex seems to have taken his chance and he has fallen down the pecking order all the same

Out-of-favour Tottenham winger David Bentley has admitted he is in talks with Aston Villa as he looks to end his White Hart Lane nightmare
The 24-year-old has been one of the flops of the season after signing for boyhood team Spurs for 16million from Blackburn last summer.
The former Arsenal youngster suffered more than most as a result of Spursâ dismal early season form but things failed to pick up when manager Harry Redknapp took over the reins in October.
Bentleyâs fall from grace has seen him lose his place in the England squad while his last Premier League start for Spurs came in January.
âIâm in talks with Villa at the moment,â he told The Sun.
âI really donât want to say much more. But weâll see what happens. Iâm hopeful of sorting it out as soon as possible.â
The North London club are prepared to make a staggering loss on Bentley with Villa reportedly paying 7million for his services.
However, rumours have surfaced that Redknapp is willing to offer Villa Bentley and fellow midfielder Jermaine Jenas in exchange for Ashley Young

We bid for him last season but he turned us down. 7m is a decent price. The lad has talent but a hell of a lot of problems too. Getting him out of London might see him return to his best. Badly lacking in pace though so its strange MON might be interested.
