I thought the two finalists tossed a coin for it.
Saturday September 17th I believe
You could be right Matty .
Come down to Limerick and we will cut you.
Jimmy Fyfe was a year ahead of me at school. Didnāt even realise he was a goalkeeper til he was in 5th or 6th year. Had a big head of floppy hair. Played a bit of music and I think plays in a wedding/pub band now.
A friend of mine was saying he had a relation who used to play for Lims. This man had been involved in a successful junior team since and had recommended a few players to Limerick that they never followed up on. They rang Fyfe a few years back offering him a trial, which seemed a little ridiculous given his experience
Great win tonight. Really nice feeling to win a match where you actually felt tension throughout. The goal was a weird one, a bit soft in the end, but they all count. Had chances to get a second, Doherty made a top class double save from Greene/Kenny, and Greene had another header really well-saved.
Derry pushed and pushed in the 2nd half and missed a few good chances, Hall made some fine saves but I thought the back 4 individually defended really well tonight- OāConnor & Williams are sometimes error-prone but both were excellent tonight and dealt with Patterson really well. Paudie is physically so strong now, heās starting to really bully players and Patterson is strong as an ox.
Super win, great atmosphere. Derry is a lovely city, Derry fans are decent sorts too. Itās a long oul drive though and Iām absolutely fucking wrecked now. Well worth it though!!! Weāre going to win the cup!
Magnificent night in the Bogside. Too hoarse and tired to write up a match report now. We stood up to them, to a man. A few hairy moments in the second half but in the main we were comfortable. Should have been 3-0 up by the changing of sides, we were the better team for much of the first half. Second half we were pinned back but still created three glorious chances. Robbie Williams my man of the match.
Rovers in the Markets Field now please.
Was dodgy there?
I can confirm @dodgy_keeper was in The Bogside last night. He was giving it the big 'un at final whistle to the locals. Heās a little tender now after last nightās celebrations.
Just back from The Brandywell.
A fantastic evening in Free Derry. Exhausted after all the driving but well worth the trip. Drove up by Dublin but returned by Letterkenny, Sligo and Galway. Something like 15 or 16 counties passed through yesterday and today.
Forgive my rugby football esque terminology but what can you say about the players. They were heroic. They were brave. They put a shift in. Worthy winners and that display gives cause for optimism next season.
Back four were immense. Two centre backs were like Baresi and Maldini. Freddy made one tremendous save. We always looked likely to create something at the other end and should have scored more.
Derry is a smashing spot. The locals are spot on. Feed of pints in a place called Granny Annieās. Like Coolios in Newcastle back in the day. 16 year olds in there and 66 year olds. Shook today but good craic anyway.
Hope we get a home final. Great to be there anyway. More revenue for the club. Pleased for Pat Sullivan. @Watchyourtoes your mate Chops was in great form!
Meeting Michael Essien and reaching a cup final - Iāve had worse weeks.
Only downside of the trip is Iām convinced I picked up a couple of penalty points. This fucker with the gun done me in a 30km/h zone in slane. I was doing about 40km. It was shnakey out the way he was catching people but ultimately my own fault. Anyway we got the result so Iāll take it.
I heard he was showing off his six pack again!?
Good man dodgy, you put every fucker here to shame.
What was Essien doing at the match on Saturday?
Did he stop you?
No, he didnāt. I kinda knew I was in the wrong and almost slowed to a halt as I approached him. We eye balled each other for a few seconds before he moved on to his next victim. Not sure if thereās some law that if they use the speed gun they have to issue the summons there and thenā¦?
I thought Duggan was top class yesterday, really excellent performance. One misplaced pass and a yellow card, didnāt put a foot wrong otherwise. Took the heat off the defence, always looked to find his man, kept running to the final whistle. A real captainās performance.
Yeah in fairness the lads in midfield worked like dogs. Paul OāConor had his best game in ages. Canāt believe we kept a clean sheet. Robbie Williams rolled back the years.
A packed Markets Field would be brilliant for the final. Place would be heaving, especially if the dubs bring a lot.
Nah, the guns have to stop you. Youāre
I suppose he would have bagged you if he stopped you? If you had a few pints in you from the night before you might be lucky just to get the speeding points.
