Attendance must not have been more than 150, of which the away crowd counted for 100. Real football, real fans. Downpour in the first half and the fans sought shelter under a tree. You wonât get this in Lyon.
It was like a pre season match, we had no interest. Always comfortable, always in control, never a chance we would drop points. Tracy free kick gave us the lead and after that it was going through the motions.
McSweeney came on and scored a belter. After that it was about playing out time. Job done and 90 minutes closer to getting out of this kip of a division.
Anyway on to Belfast in a few hours for the football qualifierâŚ
A Cobh youngster lost a finger in the North Stand tonight. Got caught in one of those fold up seats.
The game itself was non-descript, we could have won by 5 or 6 if we were really bothered. McSweeney got another good hour under his belt and showed some nice touches before making way for Captain Duggan. Lee J Lynch got man of the match, scored a great first goal. I personally would have given it to Chris Mulhall though. His work rate throughout was class.
Another nice warm up for the big one in Derry in two weeks time.
Game overshadowed by a nasty accident during the first half in the stand. There was a big commotion, Limerick were 2-0 up at the time when suddenly I looked over and saw chairman Pat - sat about 10 rows behind me - screaming for a doctor. Next thing he was running down the steps looking for the medical people. Everyone around stood up to find out what was going on. Immediate thought was someone had keeled over.
Turned out a young Cobh fan maybe only 7 or 8 years old, who was with his dad, somehow got his finger stuck in one of the seats and the finger was cut off.
The medical people rushed over, poor young fella was bawling crying, club officials had to go back up to where he was sat and pick up the finger.
People were in an awful way, someone had to sprint over to get ice from the club shop and all. Frightening for the little fella. Hopefully itâll all turn out ok for him anyway.
Match was a total anti climax after that and basically irrelevant. Duggan came on as a sub after a lengthy injury lay off and should be fine for the league cup semi final up in Derry in a fortnight.
They were average enough Mick, created a couple of good chances late on and should have scored a couple. Mind you Limerick could have had six or seven down the other end.
We were actually talking about it after the match - the ground is not owned by the club, itâs the Market Fields Ltd/Sporting Limerick crowd who own it so if there is any claim or liability it would fall on them? Could be wrong though. Freak accident, one in a million thing. Hope he is ok anyway and back to full health soon.
Jesus, I didnât hear any of that commotion from over on the far side.
Limerick were alright, still a bit open at times, slightly less lazy than they have been in the past few weeks. Good to see Duggan back. Theyâd want to focus a bit more if they want to beat Derry though.
Eddie Hickey would want to tell Freddie to stop standing 15 yards off his line when opposition have the ball on the half way line. Twice last night he was almost chipped, second time he pulled off a wonder save to tip shot onto the post. He was at it throughout! Uggghhh!
Probably our worst performance of the season, we were still comfortable. Lee-J and Mulhall were our best, Tracy was good too.
