Depends if it’s expenses or an allowance. I didn’t read the piece tbf. If he wasn’t taking a company/state car then he would probably be entitled to a car allowance.

Surely you wouldn’t judge a fella just by the job he does? That’d be like saying anyone who works in DFA is an idiot because they had a whopper champagne fest against regulations and took selfies.

That is some contract Paul appears to have.

And his house in Carrick isn’t anything unbelievable.

Stand outside Kehoe’s of South Anne Street any summer Thursday evening between 2003 & 2007 and you’d get dizzy seeing the lads from Davy’s, Anglo, NCB etc in those shirts supping pints of Heineken with sunglasses on their heads. We used to be a proper country.

Would there not be some expectation (maybe pre Covid) that a high ranking official would have to live with in a ā€œreasonableā€ distance from office

I don’t disagree at all that the salary for a public job seems insanely high. It’s also practically impossible for a lay person to tell whether he is doing a good job or not. I’m sure he’d do the job for half that or less. I’d say when they approved that salary they thought they were going to recruit some international corporate high flyer who would whip the HSE into shape spit spot.

I would imagine he lived in Carrick when he got the job.

They obviously thought he was worth it for his place of residency not to be an issue.

No issue that he has a driver. Salary is definitely on the high side but I doubt he’ll be in it more than 3-4 years. It’s a demanding job that it would be hard to stick in.

Whether he is up to it or value for that money is another thing entirely.

What’s the expected salary for climbing poles for the ESB?

He was Chief Executive of Fingal County Council before this. I wonder if he lived there at the time.

Reid has had an interesting career. He’s not there to understand the clinical side tbf. Not sure why the HSE went down that route with the CEO. I guess it was the anticipation of Slainte care.

how would his performance be measured?

Given his past, I’d say in avoiding strikes.

He probably rates himself out of 10 every quarter and someone adds it to a spreed sheet

Someone writes it on an A4 pad first. Someone keys it into a system. Someone takes it off that system and writes it on another A4 pad. Someone else keys it into another system once they are back from leave.
