We had it basically like this years ago
Failed miserably
No different to a lot of listed public companies really who go back and forth being centralised vs. regionalised, vertical vs horizontal integration etc. I think Warner Brothers has been in about 6 structures in the last two decades.
WB has laid off several staff with these restructures. the HSE has actually increased non essential staff
Not an unreasonable point.
Warner bros/ HSE Daffy Duck takes alright
Itâs basically staffed by genuine ppl
Managed ( mismanaged) by ppl who care not a whit
I see Anne OâConnor is off to the VHI
Is it a secondment?
No idea.
The HSE should be split up. But not a ridiculous regional basis. Acute hospitals, regional hospitals, primary care centres, nursing homes - and thatâs off the top of my head. Mad that it is all under the one CEO, one Board.
From what I can see their operating systems are all over the place. For an organisation with the breath of responsibility they have, it is vital that such system are integrated and fit for purpose and it seems to be anything but.
Whatâs needed is a government with the balls to take this on as well as all the vested interests but smaller chunks are needed first.
Theres a big Primary Care centre being built in NCW, what exactly will these do?
Itâs meant to keep people out of A&E and hospitals.
Provide primary care.
Will they have an A&E function? I assume they wont operate 24/7?
I find your suggestion contradictory. You want the HSE to be have integrated systems, but you want the different aspects of it -which are all inherently interconnected- to be split up and to have different CEOs? That doesnât make any sense Iâm afraid.
I donât know to be honest.
Slainte Care is the plan and seems to have broad support across all stakeholders. But like all plans in this country they seem to fall flat.
My point is that their current situation is a disaster.
I think we call agree that the HSE as an organisation is a disaster. I donât think your suggestion would help. The department of health is completely disfunctional also. Itâs like the blind leading the blind.
Surely the very starting point is about 5 times the consultants, with 5 times less workload each, working a 24/7 rota. Admitting and discharging patients at all hours of the day. Fully public contracts. Go from there then.
