Teachers

There’s that too, but it ain’t happening.

There and Roche were famous for the contracts they gave out. You were made for life if you went in to either of them as a tradesperson. Unions in both. £90k punts was the starting point for fitters

Erra look, loads of stories of back in the day. I don’t agree. Might have made 90k working shift and on all the OT under the sun, but not starting on it.

You’re never too old to re-train

They did, not a story. A family member was one

There’s huge Money in some of those places for the basic General operatives , especially the ones who got in at the start

Or installing solar systems. Easily repeatable clean well paid work in a growing industry. Lot easier than wiring houses

Why is there such a teacher shortage at the moment? Ours go to a big school and said school has had to cut the choices offered to 5th year e.g No Physics or Accounting as couldnt get teachers and small numbers have chosen these subjects

Cost of living/rent, teachers paid modest wage, immigration being a very alluring option for teachers, being fucked around on temporary contracts with no job security. Etc etc etc. Couldn’t pay me enough to do the gig.

They get full time hours and then piss off to Dubai or Australia on a career break. Temp contracts aren’t moving the needle and accomodation costs are huge. There is also more money in multinationals if teaching isn’t your “vocation”

Maths and physics will become more of an issue going forward

Oh totally agree I wouldnt do it for anybody even with the holidays! We’ve been lucky I have to say in that the vast majority our kids have had have been excellent, every job will have those that shouldnt be in it but for the most part I think teachers do a great job and dont envy them one bit.
I suppose I was more asking from the point of view that so many people seem to think its a cushy number and demand on CAO points still seems very strong

Some of them appear to have plenty of time to.plan. Problem is they are scarce enough, and they give the vast majority of hard grafters a bad name. “not tonight John, id have to work an extra six weeks”

The younger teachers in this country are still not getting pay parity after being sold out by older teachers in the Croke park deal who looked after themselves and their pensions.

Easy see why many go to UAE.

Mad they haven’t reversed that. I know everyone is free to travel but its desperate that with the country full of money more isnt being done to encourage young people to stay around.

You’ve a better chance of meeting an Irish nurse in a London or Sydney hospital than UHL.

Unless they have specialised in robotics. Ive seen fellas pivot that way, understanding programming and electrical layouts are surprisingly similar. Anyone with these skills could easily pull that

How much is a senior manager on in these places ?

How bad when you factor in the holidays …10 years at top of the scale at the end and easy access to credit as your income is always going up for 25 years. Never mind all the other allowances you can get if youre not a useless cunt.
