TFK Bogball Team 2000-2019 Midfielders

Never knew that. He was very good. Called it how he saw it, with great insight. Never one for ‘when I played…’

I recalling him looking aghast when Lyster quoted Joe Brolly about something.

‘Well I wouldn’t believe everything Joe Brolly says…’

And them teammates. Clearly no love lost there on behalf of Tohill. Made him a bigger legend in my eyes.

Defo came across as a man more into character than reputation…

Nearly killed himself with a chainsaw a few years back.

He’s chief executive of the Mid Ulster Council.

Remember there was some man united story? Was he actually a good soccer player?

Don’t know to be honest… He played centre half in some reserve game I think… @glenshane would probably know what type of soccer player he was

Tyrone had to negotiate ulster. The one year Kerry got beaten in Munster was it 09? They nearly got beat by Sligo in a qualifier.

He came over in 95 for a trial of some sorts. Broke up Kanchelskis and was subbed off after ten minutes.

Sham poll, no nominations for Galvin or Brennan

For a short period, Kerry beating them regular now

Tohill nailed on for the 90s team. some player.

Dara and Fenton for me

Kavanagh unlucky

It would have put Sligo 1 point up with 5 minutes to go, I’d be fairly sure Kerry would have rescued things. As Dublin have often shown against Mayo, there is a fair distance to travel between nearly losing to a team and actually being beaten.

He trained for a while, central defender. Played one reserve game with a few first teamers…did well and headed a corner off the crossbar. Fergusson gave him the option stay on trial but said that there were a few ahead of him. Fucked up his knee playing for Derry city.

I think it’s fair to say that Tyrone side were on their last legs in 08.

Had a look at the Tyrone team that lost to Laois in 06, it’s fair to say it was absolutely ravaged with injuries/absences

Tyrone: J Devine; R McMenamin, C McGinley, M McGee; D Harte, C Gourley, P Jordan; K Hughes, S Cavanagh; R Mellon, R Mulgrew, E McGinley; M Penrose, O Mulligan, C McCullagh.

No Dooher
No Gormley
No McGuigan

Not to mention losing McAnallen

O’Neill was crocked with tendonitis by this stage and only really feature off the bench in 06 and 07.

It was a great achievement by Harte to win three All Irelands with Tyrone coming out of Ulster with the amount of injuries and tragedies he had to deal with along the way.

McGuigan missed 06 and 07 with two terrible injuries and also had to replaced before throw in against Mayo in 04 with an injury. Tyrone also lost Gormley with an injury early doors in that match too.

I can’t remember many injury absences for Kerry in those years, Galvin had a big suspension in 08 but that was it.

I guess that’s the difference between being thrown in a bear pit in May and being parachuted into the knockout stages in late July/Aug.

Who were these bear pit teams they played in those years they didn’t win who took so much out of them and were they actually any good in terms of results?

Down, Derry, Fermanagh, Armagh and Donegal were all in AI SFs between 2002-2010.

You saw the trouble Kerry had getting over Banty’s Monaghan in 2007 and 2008 too.

When you add Tyrone in that’s 7 of the 9 Ulster counties.

Knocked out by Derry first day out in Ulster in 2006 (failed to score in 1st half), beat Louth in a replay and then beaten by Laois. They had injuries that year but Tyrone relied massively on a system rather than players, if the system wasn’t at 100% they didn’t have enough quality players who could win games on their own.

Incorrect.

How would Kerry have done if they had been missing the likes of Declan O’Sullivan, Tomas O’Se and Colm Cooper in their peak for full seasons at the same time and were thrown into competitive games in early May?

The years they won All Irelands through the back door they were given some big scares by the likes of Antrim, Sligo, Monaghan etc and that was with pretty much their strongest teams out.

Not very good is the answer I’d say.
